I've posted previous threads on this before looking for an answer, and today I finally found out hat it was. I took my car into the shop today because it occasionally makes a loud pop at idle. It only happens maybe once every 3 or so times I take the car out. I can't replicate the sound, because it is completely random. The car drove 100% normal so I kind of ignored it when it happened. I had no class today so I figured I'd take it in and have them pull the valve covers to make sure everything was okay. As soon as the pulled the valve covers off they found the problem right away. The locks slide slightly out of the retainers which caused the rocker arm to touch the sides of the retainers. This caused the exhaust valves to open slightly longer at times. I ending up getting all new springs and retainers, so the car should be good to go now.

Good find. That was a destroyed motor in the making.
