V6 Brakes- what is the best?

This weekend I started hearing a bad sound from my right front brake, I took out the pad and there was none left. I feel bad about letting it get down to metal but it never started screeching and they are less than 2 years old, so I never suspected anything. I was using EBC Redstuff and other than daily driving (total less than 20,000KM on the pads) I had only used them for light 3 track days.

My question:

What would be the best replacement for these pads? I have been looking around and want to try something new and want a very strong pedal feel with a lot of stopping power. I use EBC in both my other cars and really like how they stop but was never too satisfied with them in the Camaro. I put my OEM pads back in and felt like they actually bite harder than the EBC did.

I would love to upgrade my callipers and rotors, but because I am overseas it is very difficult to do so on a budget, so unless you are coming to Beijing in the next few weeks and don't mind bringing me a set (which would be awesome!), please just tell me about pads that will fit in the V6 callipers.

Lastly, I started using a new type of wheel cleaner, I noticed that after using it once my callipers started to look really bad. Does anyone think that the wheel cleaner spray may have had something to do with the state of the pads?

Just reading on what you use the car for, I would recommend the Hawk HPS.

They are an all around great pad with great stopping power.

I agree on both (pads and gloves) lol!!! I put HPS pads on and I am very pleased with their performance. I also have the slotted/dimpled rotors.

Thanks for your replies everyone! Because of all the help and good advice I get on this forum I am glad to be a part of this. And my wife says the same thing about my gloves, but my response is that those are my special smartphone gloves.

I have a friend here who is a pro Touring Car driver for the F*rd team, (I don't want to offend anyone by mentioning the F brand here). He knows the distributer for EBC here in China and got me a really good deal on some Yellowstuff pads. I am getting a set for less than the retail price in the states. I'm pretty excited to see how they perform as I have only used red before. He also mentioned Hawk pads were a good option. In my research I have never hear good things said about Hawk- most reviews say that they produce a lot of dust and squeak. However, I am willing to try them in the future if suddenly everyone is recommending them for my car. Also Hawk HPS are widely available in China too. Have they changed their formula recently? Maybe I was only seeing old reviews?

I have the HPS pads on the non V6 brembo brakes, and they make a lot of noise. Everyone complains about the pads making some noise, as long as you're ok with that I haven't had any problems with wearing early.

Of course I had zero problems & never even a squeak out of the stock pads which I still have along with the calipers, rotors and lines. I'm sure they're expensive though. If you're not looking for hard stopping brakes, autozone's duralast gold brake pads are cheap and great with a lifetime warranty (maybe not in china) and I use them on all my customer's brake jobs, never had a complaint. zero noise problems, and they don't wear out prematurely. they're made by Bosch so don't let the duralast sticker fool you.

I'd be sure to clean around the pistons on those calipers and confirm they're moving freely.

If they get sticky and hold the pad against the rotor you will get premature /uneven wear and a lot of heat (that pad looks a bit "fused" to the rotor).

Just a thought .

Another vote for Hawks pads. I replaced my pads, rotors lines and fluid, with the following.

Hawks ceramic pads

R1 slotted and drilled rotors

Goodridge stainless steel brake lines

Motul RBF 600 DOT 4 brake fluid.

Is it just me or do those stainless lines look much longer than the oem rubber lines? I just slapped my track pads and new rotors on the car yesterday and pretty sure my oem rubber lines are way shorter than that.

That's one reason why I haven't decided to go stainless, everybody complains about fit and if they're not the exact same length I worry about them getting cut.

I don't remember them being any longer than stock. I had no issues with the install or location. They are well out of the way. I have had them on for 20K miles now and no issues to date.
