Leather seat conditioning/protection recomendations

I have never bought a NEW car with leather interior. It seems no matter how low the miles, the leather always looks aged/worn/tired. Of course, GM hasnt always used good leather. It does look as if they are now using better stuff. That being said, what do you guys use on yours? If anything at all? I want this interior to keep. I have the ability to make sure it stays like new, from day 1, this time. I want to start it off right!

I just bought a Subaru with fo-leather.

And have the camaro coming with leather.

I bought 2 products to care for our interiors. Honestly no clue how they will do. From past experience I have found that there are two types of people. Those who care for their interiors and those who don't.

From personal experience with my previous leather interiors I found that rubbing them down once a month with a conditioner/protectant is all that is needed.

Ive used the Maquires stuff a few times, and really felt/saw no difference. I am wondering if maybe it is because if the thin vinyl coating that(I think) Laborsmith mentioned? So it never realy gets into the LEATHER? Then again, if they have that film, its not really the LEATHER you are even treating then!?

I've never used any cleaner on my IO leather seats. Wipe them down once in awhile after
vacuuming. They still look good with no creases or cracks after 6 years. I keep my sunroof
closed to keep the sun out as much as possible. Never touch the rear, never been back there.
I think its only the "seating surfaces" that's leather anyway.

Lexol cleaner and conditioner is all that I use now. It doesn't leave the greasy film when applied correctly and keeps the leather feeling completely new and supple. The reason that I like it more than other cleaners is because it is ph balanced, so it does not harm the leather in any way and also doesn't have some strong scent to it (I don't care for scented cleaners).

Guys, remember that the part you're cleaning, isn't 100% leather. There is a super thin layer of vinyl, a protective layer, over the leather seating surface. A gentle soap & water with a soft brush is all you really need.

Lexol etc are great cleaners for leather, if you're cleaning and conditioning actual leather.

Well if you knew my wife you'd know that she could give a rats @ss about her car or the interior. It truly is an appliance. Absolute dependability is her primary concern.

That said I just used an interior sealant (Wolfgang - linked above - polymer based) on the entire interior (after I cleaned the mess and marks in her 2 week old car). I was immediately able to tell that there is a very thin coating over everything. It also left a light gloss on the dash and trim. I was also surprised that it adhered to hard plastics without a greasy haze. I'll see how it holds up and if it makes it any easier to clean marks off her light tan interior.

Maybe I should have made her go black.

Even if we aren't treating the leather it doesn't mean that it doesn't need to be cared for.

I don't know that product but I do know Wolfgang makes good stuff. Let us know how it works out.

My bad. It was you Curr, not Laborsmith who mentioned the thin layer over the leather. So, factoring the layer, there is really nothing we can do to preserve it then? Aside from the obvious cleaning? Sounds like an Armorall type product would be best?

My only gripe about Armorall products is that many of them are greasy and can dry out whatever they are being applied to. Some people like it, but I don't like greasy plastics/leather personally.

I contacted 303 about this when I first picked up my '12 5.0 and they recommended mild soap and water for cleaning, and their regular 303 Protectant for "protecting" / wipe downs, so to speak. It's what I've been using on Wifey's Lexus since, 05, and my Infiniti since, 2012. Use it on the dash, plastics, tires etc. I use this stuff on the door / convertible top / trunk seals.

Don't drive the car or get a set of WetOkole seat covers. Coming from someone who owns a car with white interior, it WILL get dirty if you spend any amount of time in the driver's seat.
