Ticking Time Bomb?
Hi all, I could use some thoughts on some ticking noise I had last night to point me in the right direction. I’ve had the car for the last 7,000 miles and 4 ½ months. (poor thing was a garage queen before me)
2010 LS3 w/ 32,000 miles. Bone stock except for Z/28 intake & axle back exhaust. I had the windows down when I took off and I could faintly hear a ticking at WOT around 5,000+ RPM. It’s not a knocking sound, it sounds more like an exhaust leak. I’m hoping it is just that and will be a good excuse to get some headers for myself for x-mas. Is it common to develop an exhaust leak on these cars? Normal noise? I hope it’s not Valve float though. Anybody have any issues with the valve train on a stock motor? I have good oil pressure, running syn Valvoline 5w-30. I’m going to take it for a rip this afternoon to see if I hear it again. Or maybe a good excuse to upgrade the cam. Thanks for your help. |

I must have been hallucinating last night, or it just was super quiet last night on the roads. All seems and sounds just fine.
Or as the service dept. would say, sorry we could not replicate those conditions, lol Just me being paranoid. had the engine replaced last month in my wife's Acadia for a spun rod bearing, thankfully still under warranty. Everything breaks as soon as you let off, lol |

I've replaced plenty of damaged cams/lifters, but haven't had any on an LS3 yet but that could just be because there aren't many around here. I'd keep an ear out for it. And I'd ditch the Acadia ASAP, total junk. I've fixed everyting from engines, transmissions, steering, and suspension on a lot of Acadias, all very common problems, just junk cars.
