Fire Extinguisher?
Has anybody mounted a fire extinguisher in your trunk? I've had one in all of my previous performance whips and I'm trying to find the best place to mount a smaller one in my trunk.

Good idea! I sat on someone's steps watching my '93 Camaro burn years ago. That wouldn't have happened if I had an extinguisher with me. I haven't looked for a place to mount one in the new Camaros yet.

No and don't want one. I have insurance that would replace my car in the event it burned. I wouldn't want to save the car to be repaired to have "fire damage" reported on Carfax.
Also in the event of an electrical fire (which is the most likely reason for the fire), you aren't getting in the trunk to retrieve it anyway. |

There are plenty of good reasons to have a fire extinguisher handy, even if you don't want to stop your car from burning. How 'bout another small fire nearby? To beat back flames to give you or someone else room to rescue someone? Small brush fire?
I HAVE used my car f.e. to keep a brush fire at bay while waiting for the fire department and two of us kept it from spreading to an adjacent apartment building. I want one in my car always. Rob |

If your car burns and is rebuilt the smell of burnt plastic kept coming back every time the temp got to about 87 degrees. I had so many electrical shorts that State Farm finally totaled my 1988 F150 extended cab after the electrical fire in the dash. The fire was caused by a Ford manfacturing problem.
Food for thought!! If it is insured......... I hate Fords to this day!!

I have on in my old Beetle and one in my FFR. Both are carburated and run hot in the engine bay. Don't have, don't need, don't want one in any of my newer cars. Full Coverage with State Farm is what I carry. Likes someone said, I wouldn't want to save it anyway. Let em burn, get paid, buy new one! Besides, by the time your new car (now) catches on fire (years from now), the agent in the bottle would have already dried up! Unless of course you are routinely checking, refilling, or replacing it. On the flip side, doesn't hurt anything to carry one. Ok, I think I just convinced myself to carry one in the trunk.

not a bad idea, could come in handy but most likely will sit and take up space without use. I used to carry one in my boat (required by law) and never used it for years, but once I was in a parking lot in vegas waiting for a mobile tire guy come out and replace one of the boat trailer tires he pulls up next to me and gets to work, about 5 minutes later his truck catches on fire so I grab the fire extinguisher from the boat and put it out. Will insurance take care of this stuff ? Yes. Could it be useful in a freak accident ? Absolutely.

In the case that I mentioned, oil dripped onto the hot exhaust and ignited. The car could have been easily saved without any significant damage but up it went. There are times when you might need one to save someone in an accident. That little kid that was trapped in a rollover last month comes to mind. And if it's something where your car starts to go up and you don't care if you have it anymore, you don't need the extinguisher

I can see why people would want one but why would you put it in the trunk with the battery? The main sources of fire are engine fires and electrical fires. I've seen batteries explode because of electrical fires plus if there is an electrical fire you're not getting into the trunk to get it. Why not find a place in the passenger compartment to keep it instead?
