From what I have read, the new se in a straight line will be faster. 200 pounds lighter and about 30 more horse power. But to out perform the 1LE on road track you will need the magnetic ride suspense. Not sure how close they are without the magnetic ride though. I mean the new ss not se, damn auto correct.

I would wait till Randy Pobst gets behind the wheel, It might be quicker and weigh less which will benefit in the straights, but with the narrow tires its going pull less G's in the corner. I think it will post same times.
The magnetic ride isn't the majic maker. I bet its going to be like a Chevy Malibu ride when off and a standard SS when on. I doubt it will be as stiff as a 1LE. |

I for one can not wait until here are tests done by folks like Probst do the test. I know many will say he is not impartial, but I have a hard time believing that that even a mag ride standard SS gen 6 is going to out handle a gen 5 1LE. It very well may out o -60 it (and should), but not out handle it.

Don't care. 5th gen 1LE is what I have and enjoy.

GM itself has said that the new SS will out handle a 1LE.
So I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the new SS will out handle a 1LE

Where is the exact verbiage from GM that this is stated?

I'm pretty sure i read somewhere that the standard ss is faster than the 13-15 1le around a track

"Around a track" is a very broad statement... On a longer road course with more straights? Sure, I can see the '16 SS with MRC outrunning a 1LE. On a small, tight road course or auto x course? 1LE takes it any day. Magazine tests have already been done and they didn't show the '16 SS to have any advantage over a 1LE besides straight line acceleration.

You are probably right. On a tight course the smaller, lighter, more powerful car with a better suspension will always be at a disadvantage.

My director is getting a 6th gen test vehicle in the relatively near future so I'd be happy to write up a comparison. Granted, I'm not Randy Pobst, nor do I know what spec Camaro it will be, but if the stars align and I get some seat time in a manual SS 6th gen I'll be happy to tell you my impressions.
From talking to people very familiar with the car though, I've been told they're different animals. The 1LE is likely going to be a better performance-driver experience while the 6th gen is going to be the overall better car with the technical advancements that have been made and implemented in the car. I guess it all depends on what your metric is for determining which car is better. |

You should be able to get a better deal than 40k on a 2015 1LE at this point. Just saying.

How are you so sure that the Gen 6 has a better suspension / tire set up? Because of MRC? I think we better wait for some numbers.

IMO, its the tires that will be the biggest factor in the 1LE besting the 2016 SS on a highly technical course. Summer only track type 285 front 285 rear tires vs 245 front 275 rear all season high performance tires. I think when the experts get it out on a course that the will say its only held back by its tendency to under steer in corners. if its got long enough straits for the power and weight savings (not sure how much of the 200 lb advantage will be lost with adding mag ride) the new SS may beat it on those type tracks.
