Tracking control

Hey everyone,

Total noob here but is it normal that my 2015 Camaro ZL1 doesn't catch traction very well when I am going about 25 mph and then hit the gas pedal down about 70 percent? This is an automatic and it does it more often when not using the paddles.

It seems to catch traction fine at higher speeds but for some reason it almost goes into a deep fishtail when you punch it at lower speeds. Am I doing something wrong??

+1....Need tires with better grip or make sure the tires are warmed up.

Mine does the same thing. Going about 20-30 MPH and I punch it not quite to the floor. Suddenly the rear tires start squealing and smoking, car goes sideways. So I up shift and it does it again. Not sure what the issue could be? So I will continue to test different theories till I can figure this out. I know when this happens with my wife in the car, I get smacked multiple times, and there is yelling and screaming.

Would upgraded trailing arms help limit this or is it just a matter of needing a tire with more grip?

There is no issues. You are overpowering road+tires. Is this you guys first big horsepower car? Most people don't complain about having to much power on this forum. The factory goodyears are garbage IMO. Better tires will fix your traction issues. Your wife issues I can't help you with.

Not complaining about the power at all, love it. Just want to manage it better!

Great attitude! Tires and Temp will matter a good deal. That said, the most important rule than is to know that the gas pedal is not an on-off switch. Smooth and gradual (but not necessarily "slow" application of the throttle will keep you pointed in the direct you want to go.

I just supercharged so I'm definitely having to learn the "smooth and gradual" approach.

Wow thanks everyone! Now I'm a lot less concerned. I was afraid mine alone had something wrong with it. Will new tires help substantially? (Have any suggestions?)

And I have had high hp cars before but not quite this high. I usually base all other cars on a Nissan 350z that I have been playing with for the past 10 years. The Camaro obviously has way more hp than that but I had hoped the control would be a little more similar than it appears so far. It's probably just something I will have to get used to.

It's February! Nobody can get traction right now.

If you have a coupe, you may want to give PTM 3 a try. It will help keep you under control.

Gotcha. I still have a little playing around to do to figure out the best daily PTM mode for me. I thought PTM3 maximized hp and left traction control identical to PTM1?
