Speed In Gears

Does anyone know the breakdown of speed per gear?

Meaning, what is the top speed in each gear, 1-6 in the manual SS (TR6060)?

I'll make sure to check this out next time I haul ass. I know that you can go pretty far in first. I think at least 45 in first, but I don't check. I just make sure that I hit each gear when I push it near red line. 155 is top speed in 6th though....I know that much. Lol.

So far I've found this information:

Speed in Gears
1st 52 mph 38(Auto) mph
2nd 76 mph 64(Auto) mph
3rd 110 mph 99(Auto) mph
4th 157 mph (limited) 131(Auto) mph
5th 157 mph (limited) 157(Auto) mph (limited)
6th 140 mph 140(Auto) mph

Extracted from: http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews...a_0_to_60.html

Manual on the left, Auto on right.

Is that accurate?

I figured it all out once, put it in a spread sheet, and now I can't find the file. But that seems about right.

52 mph in first gear on the manual? That seems really high. I'd take my car out to find out except she's covered up and it's raining.

I imagine wind resistance becomes a major factor in 6th gear at that speed. 5th and 6th are "fuel sipping" gears.

The real question is where to shift out of each gear so that the RPMs are at the beginning of the torque curve in the next gear, permitting the best acceleration?

I too find it strange that 6th is slower than 4th and 5th. What if you shift out of 5th to 6th at 157? Does the top speed then drop?!

Steve... good call.

I'm re-building my spreadsheet right now. I have some bugs to work out ... I'm at 2000+ mph in 1st gear

Alright, for the LS3 manual cars, here are the gear limited top speeds (in mph):

1st 39
2nd 66
3rd 102
4th 136
5th 184
6th *233

*aerodynamic drag requires over 700 hp at the wheels to achieve this speed. Now, as for slowing down at 157 mph when going from 5th to 6th ... it won't happen. The car requires around 200 hp (at the wheels) at that speed, but in 6th (and 4000 rpm) it makes around 250. In 6th gear aero drag catches up with the power at around 170 mph. For 5th its 180-185 mph. That said, it is totally possible that the V6 would slow down when shifting from 5th to 6th, at 157 mph.

hey, I forced myself to exclude the formulas this time and only include basics like hp, rpm, and mph.

Want me to show all my work, for old times sake?
