What the hells that smell?

Ok...When we first got the car I could smell the usual crap burning off but now over the last couple of days im getting a distinct smell of oil burning. Ive checked under the car and inside the engine compartment and its clean as a whistle. Checked the oil several times and it reads full. No smoke and the car runs great. Smell seems to get stronger after sitting and idleing in traffic for a bit. 600 + miles on the thing. Plastic heating up maybe?

Smells like paranoia.

Get a good look underneath, from engine to exhaust tips.

you sure it is not the part labels wrapped around the exhaust pipes? Mine smoked and smelled for days until the labels were there no more.

Not sure..Havent seen any smoke and we have had it for three weeks now. Could smell the various paints and other new car smells burning off when it was brand new..This is a relatively new smell.

You said that the smell seems to be stronger when idling and sitting in traffic. Engine is hotter when car is not moving and the smell is more noticeable as it is able to linger. Check to make sure nothing is in contact and slowly melting on the exhaust manifolds, check again for anything on the pipes. It is not uncommon to run over a plastic bag on the road and they melt on the pipes. Get under the car and check for signs of any fluid leak.

Did all that several times..Took it for a 60 mile drive around the local area yesterday and didnt really notice it. Most likely it was something like a sticker burning off or something. Thanks for the suggestions!

Another thing....the clutch will also give off a burning smell if you are slipping it in traffic. Friction smell. I did this the other day. I had the RPM higher than normal as I slowly let off the clutch...burnt SMELL!

New car oil smell...that's all

Mine is the same....Drove it home and noticed the smell of the preservative that they use and that it usually is worse at stops. It can concern some....but that is the new metal burn in smell. It will go away, eventually.

I had the same thing for quite a few miles. I checked everything but to no avail. Eventually the smell when away.; I chalked it up the rings wearing in...
