V6 Clutch/Transmission Issue

I bought my 2014 1LS in June with 18,800 miles on it. Noticed the shifter was a bit rough. Figured it was me and I just wasn't used to the way the shifter on this car felt.

Fast forward a couple weeks and it began to get hard to engage 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear sometimes, with 1st even grinding a bit with the clutch pedal pushed to the floor.

Took it into the dealer and couldn't figure it out. So they called 'engineering', and ran whatever tests they wanted and came to the conclusion the clutch is bad. Service advisor told me the previous owner probably fried it.

The good news is they're covering it under warranty, even a new flywheel not a resurface job. So I feel pretty lucky on that part. Especially after some of the horror stories I read on here when searching for clutch/warranty issues.

But there's a few things bothering me about this...

If the friction disc is fried like they said, shouldn't it be slipping? It's not.
If it's a bad slave cyl shouldn't it be difficult to engage any gear not just the first 3. Same with a warped flywheel or pressure plate, shouldn't it affect all the gears.
