L99 Cam. Help!

Hello, I have a 2015 camaro ss A6. I'm finally ready for a cam and I wanted to go ls3 conversion and remove the vvt and dod. Im also going for a 3600 stall as well. I just don't know exactly all I will need to complete the install. I know I will need an Ls3 conversion kit, a stall, tune, and obviously a cam. I know I want to go with a big cam with some lope and power behind it. Can someone help me step-by -step of parts I will need for it to run smoothly. Any info to get me on the right path is appreciated, thanks!

I can't help much but everything I have read says to keep the VVT so not to go with a straight LS3 conversion but that is up to you ultimately. The L99's are demons when they are cammed and keep the VVT.

GPI, Ryan (Rhino79) can help you out. I kept VVT for my LSA conversion...

Search can help you find more info as there has been quite a bit discussed over the years...

Good thing I jumped into the forum today because I was just about to make the same post. I have done all the basic bolt ons to my SS...LT's, CAI and exhaust. So, now it's time to start moving to internals. I have been reading as much as I can about cams for L99's and my brain goes into overload! lol

Ive been reading more info on the vvt. And it seems like it all has to do with the tuner. If I were to get a vvt cam would Texas speed be a good one?

Torque Converter, upgraded oil pump and k-tec timing chain is a good start.... choosing those things is the easiest part.

Now you have the hard part, choosing what lifters, springs (trunion upgrade or not) ... uhhm... I'm probably forgetting a few things.

What you need to have at the very least is gonna be.

1. The cam you want.
2. Upgraded oil pump
3. Torque converter for an aggressive cam
4. Upgraded chain
5. Upgraded lifters
6. Upgraded Springs

Like I said... probably forgetting a few things. Might wanna consult the experts when they chime in.

Go with Rhino from GPI, he's mastered the VVT and has FOUR different stages to choose from SS1 - SS4

Upgraded oil pump on the stock L99 is not necessary as the demands of VVT and AFM already requires a healthy one from the factory. It is not like the normal LS3 pump.

So what are the pros and cons of keeping vvt or getting rid of it?

I could see why.

See this is why noobs like me get confused. I do recall someone a while back saying you might as well replace the oil pump while you're in there, I do remember seeing something about the LS3 oil pumps being trash even on stock engines.

So, an upgrade isn't necessary, but a factory replacement is a good idea right?

I feel like I should know everything there is to know about L99 cams so I don't get ripped off in case I go that route.

It's just so confusing. There's so many options for the l99.

VVT is just an all around better technology, I'll give you the idea of how it works for cams in our L99's.

Basically in comparison to the LS3 which is limited to a "Peak hp/tq curve" in a given RPM. For example... say the Ls3 pulls the hardest at 4k - 6k.

Now with the VVT, someone like Rhino from GPI Performance in Arkansas can make power all over the place in a much broader rpm range like 2k - 7k.

All of the VVT cammed Camaro's are dominating the 1/4 mile fast list.

Someone here can give a better explanation here for sure, this is just what I understand from it and why it's better.
