Vinyl Stripes Lifting
I saw a Black 5th gen with red dual stripes entering my neighborhood. What really caught my attention was passenger side stripe was completely gone & the driver side was 1/2 missing with uplifted ripped edge. It was a sad sight of a 5th Gen.
How long do the vinyl stripes last? |

I've heard they last approximately 10 years if cared for. Mine are 3 1/2 years old, cared for and no garage, even winter snow. Still look new..

Not to hijack this thread but my question is similar. I am looking at buying a 2013 with the factory stripe kit. They are not peeling but are defiantly faded and checking, how difficult is it to remove a stripe once it needs to be done? Should I expect to still see a "ghost" stripe from the paint faded? What is the best process to remove them?

I had my stripes put on in 2009 by a local graphics company. They still look great.

1) using heat gun or hair dryer, heat up about 4-5" sections at a time starting at an edge. Heat in circular motion, so as not to melt the stripe or overheat the paint, (just enough to soften and allow the glue to release. 2) begin peeling by pulling in a diagonal angle about 30-45 degree angle. You will get the feel for how much heat you need. 3) remove any glue residue with googone or similar product. 4) if you are not planning to replace the stripes, wax the areas where stripes were New stripes are fairly easy, just follow instructions and be careful, because even wetting with spray bottle, the decal will begin to stick, making re-positioning difficult without destroying the decal. I have done many, they get easier every time. In fact I just added stripes to my wife's Challenger yesterday. There is a new product that comes in a gel form, that looks much more forgiving instead of using water. I see them use it on the car show Graveyard Carz.

Recently had to have my 2010 original side striping redone.
Mine was badly cracked and left terrible shadowing in the paint. It didn't look OEM though. I went with Avery side stripes that were an exhaust match pattern wise to cover the shadowing in the paint. Went with Big Worm for the mailslot, gills, and hood spears. All matte black. Car originally had silver and red stripes.

I have stripes from BigWorm Graphics. Had them installed when car was new (2012) and still look like they are new. No fading, chipping, lifting; no problems at all!
