Help with a flat/leak
OK this not how I want my year to start out, the other day I came out and my tire was flat as a pancake. I looked around and I noticed one of those semi-heavy duty staples sticking out in between the treads of my tires right about in the middle of the tire and thought there was no way that could have caused the flat so I grabbed it (like a dummy) and it came out very easy almost without effort. I then used the inflator that comes with the Camaro (very impressed on how fast it inflated the tire) but did not use the sealant because I have heard that if it is not really needed it will mess up the tire more down the road??? My plan was to have it patched that is why I did not use the sealant. I am losing about 2-3 PSI every couple days, so my questions is would a quick blast of the sealant/fix a flat seal the slow leak or should I take the wheel and tire off the car and take it in someplace and have it patched???? I am pretty sure a plug is too big but I am not sure? Any suggestion would be great. The tires are BFGoodrich g Forch comp 2 with less than 500 miles on them. Thank Don

Hi Don,
Sorry to hear about that unfortunate situation. A proper patch is definitely the way to go for the long-run. In case you get another puncture (knock on wood), most places will avoid touching the tire if sealant has been used. Hopefully this helps for what it is worth. Best of luck and sweet car! Al, That is what I thought that no one would touch the tire if any type of sealant was used that is why I held off. My only concern is if they will be able to find the puncture but the old soapy water trick should work???

Mm depending on the shop and technician, they may spray the soapy solution and/or submerge the wheel/tire to better locate the small punctures from that heavy duty staple. If they are reputable and capable, then it should not be an issue lol - may take a while though!
