There is a metal brace under the car that is roughly under the front seats. Most times it needs removed for installing new exhaust. My question is, is it really needed? The reason I ask is I had to shim it once I installed my aftermarket exhaust but if I can shed a pound of weight then I'll do it!

1lbs of savings saving is not worth losing the safety factory it provides....IMHO

Look elsewhere or stop drinking soda for 2 weeks to lose the 1lb.

Tunnel brace is there for rigidity. BMR among other 3rd party suppliers offer even stronger versions with better clearance, and some have fabricated their own..
