skip shift eliminator problems

A gm tech pulled me aside and said , yes that skip shift sensor let's you shift in any gear, but it also opens up those same blocking plates at high rims also if I bring it in again with that on it will void my warranty! At first I called bulls hit and put it back on and sure enough second gear grind at about 5k so about a week ago I removed the eliminator and it's does not give me any type of problems what so ever !!! I would like to see some input on this ?

Its a solenoid near the shifter housing. I vote the tech is full of shit and you missed a shift due to operator error.

I thought this also .. trust me. but the grind has happened in all sorts of shifting!! Now with out the eliminator it's smooth as butter??. It's a simple thing to do if some are having the same problem IMO . I have no kind of grind or clunk at high RPMS SMOOTH!!! That 33 dollar Pos can stay off my trans.. it's just great if you shift better I don't even get the message or need to do it anyways now

I have the skip shift eliminator and have had no issues with high rpm shifts.

I don't see the point of a skip shift eliminator on these cars anyhow. have never EVER had the skip shift engage in my car in 5 years of driving... When does it ever come into play?

I've seen it come up on the DIC when the rpms are too low before shifting from 1st to second. Ok, this was posted by Apex Chase a while back:

CAGS, or Computer-Aided Gear Selection, is a feature on newer domestic performance vehicles equipped with a six speed manual transmission. The purpose of CAGS is to help avoid the “gas guzzler” tax by improving fuel economy under “normal” driving conditions. CAGS is activated in the 2010-up Camaro SS when:

you are in first gear
you are using 21% throttle or less
you are traveling between 15 & 19 mph
and your engine coolant temperature is greater than 169°F (76°C)

I guess it only engages if you're driving like a grandma in 1st gear. No wonder I've never seen it.

No way the eliminator is causing problems. I have a $10 off of eBay that has performed flawlessly. Never had a grind at any RPM (knock on wood).

The skip shift doesn nothing for the car at high RPMs. No way putting an eliminator on it would cause a different characteristic during high RPM shifting.

Where do you live that you can hammer 1st gear constantly? I am one of those strange individuals that lives in those "developed" areas of our country. I have neighbors. We live in a town. There are other cars around me when I drive. We have police patrolling our streets that don't take kindly to any of us doing anything but driving Miss Daisy. Strange? Yes. You should stop by some time and check it out - it's wild.

I daily drive my 1LE and my Skip Shift notification on the DIC comes up at least a half-dozen times per day.

I don't have an explanation for your grind issue but the tech is wrong on both counts. It is illegal to outright void your warranty simply due to the presence of an aftermarket part.

I engage it so rarely, I feel like I don't need one. On my CTS-V, I hit the thing all the time.

So why not short-shift into 2nd at a little above 10 mph, if 20 mph in 1st is going to attract too much attention?

I can't think of any conditions in any car where I'd be happier chugging along at 20 mph in 4th (I'm guessing about 800 rpm for an SS, or barely off idle) than I would be running the engine at 1100 rpm in 2nd (about 15 mph). At 17 mph (middle of skip-shift's range) there isn't even room for discussion. 1LE rpms are a little higher, but not enough to change which transmission gear I'd be happy being in and which one I wouldn't.

Actually, 1st and 2nd gear ratios are higher in the 1LEs, thus making the RPMs lower, no?
