Some info that i found on Camaro5

Some info that i found on Camaro5. Hear is two members that have the check engine light come on after the install of a CAI and a 100+ mi of driving with there CAI on the car.

First one
Quote:
Steve@********: Mine is doing this as well after I put my CAI on. The 2nd day the light comes on. After about 100 miles it went off. I thought cool. Another 100 miles and it came on again and has been on ever since. Have you done any mods like this yet? I'll eventually get a tune to correct it, but haven't decided on which one to go with yet. I'm also not sure if I want to put the stock air box on or not.
Next one.
Quote:
rebelliondog206: Same here....installed CAI and axle back. Light came on after 150 miles or so. It has gone off, come back on. I am stil confused as to what it is.....I am looking into it and will post again when I learn more.
I know of more ppl that had this happen to them but do not want to upset the CAI manufacturer , Like i said i don't care what CAI you buy that is up to you, But don't think that with most of the CAI you can put it on and go you will get check engine lights with out a tune and i know some of you don't want a tune at this time, So that is why i said you need to drive the car as it takes a long time for it to learn.

A member is selling his CAI and this is his info.

Quote:
BLK2SS:
I'm selling my CAI, had it on the car for a couple of days. My car didn't respond well to it, and I don't want to do a tune. It is the powdercoated one that is shown on the website
So a member asks him why and this is what he said.
Quote:
BLK2SS:
I had a slight bucking at low RPMs, especially when it was cold.
If you want more info do a search by user name as this is not my posts.

Stay tuned as there will be a lot more of this.

I forgot this one to.

Quote:
ssmike:
Who else has the LS3 "herky jerkies"? Symptoms:

1) surging and bucking when cold during steady speeds. Seems to clear up after warmed up but it is still there just very subtle.
2) After installing an OTR CAI it got worse to the point that it occurrs even after warmed up.
3) The herky jerkies are most apparent at steady speeds when trying to maintain speed like 35 mph in 3rd gear or 40-45 mph in 4th gear (1800-2200 rpm). The engine seems to miss especially when backing off slightly on the accelerator.
4) The 5/20 fuse pull did not help.
5) Slight surging when accelerating until over 3000 rpm.

I had my car at the dealers but they could not duplicate the problem and said there were no ECM flash upgrades yet. It seems to be a cold air problem because using a true CAI the engine is getting cooler air and causes the bucking more often. With the stock intake it is not getting as much cool air after the engine compartment is warm thus runs better after its warmed up.

I don't know if I should return the OTR CAI and go back to the stock one, I don't want to. I want someone at GM to really study this problem. Will someone who knows what this might be please help. There are 3 members that I know of with the same issue and the same CAI and also many who don't seem to have this problem. The CAI manufacturer says it's not the intake but something with my car that's causing it. I can't seem to get my Chevy dealer to help, they just think I'm imagining it, they really pissed me off!

I would like to know how to escelate this to GM like the 5/20 fuse problem was. Thanks for any help anyone can come up with!
I will find some more, need to go drive some as the i have to data log some more info with the wide band in the tail pipe. ( did i forget to tell you that i live close to the old ford testing site the hot test site )

Sure can’t wait to see this pot of gold at the end of the rainbow called Vararam. It’s obviously the end-all-be-all of revolutionary engineering…

Geez dude, give the trolling of Cold Air Intakes a break your credibility on the subject is zilch at this point.

And it’s real easy to pretend to make a point by pulling quotes out of context…but whatever, you are on a holy quest of the highest order don’t be led astray by facts and actual proof of claims…the CAI industry depends on you!

I am sure if you check in enough places you can find negative information for just about anything. If you make/sell enough of anything some are going to fail at some point. That is is just the laws a probability. Stuff happens. Though I appreciate the fact that you are doing your research, what are you trying to say here? am I missing something?

You shouldn't group all CAIs into one mass. I hear what you are saying, but there are plenty of people who do have CAIs and no tune and haven't had any issues whatsover.

People just need to research and talk with others and make up their own mind on what they want to do. In the end, it should boil down to the company and how they stand behind their product, how they create their products, and how they lead their customers to make the correct descision.

You are searching threads and “selecting” quotes and applying them to your theory OUT OF CONTEXT of the original discussions to justify your means.

What exactly was the point of this thread? You trying to say that every CAI on the market will require mandatory tuning or the car will throw codes?

My LS3 bucks and has the “herky jerky’s” and runs erratically when cold and stops when it’s up to ideal running temps, this all went away when I pulled the fuses over night. The quotes you are selecting do not all involve the CAI installation...

I agree with you on that, In what i do 3 out of a 100 We can not make them happy.

That we make a list of all the CAI that the members have on the car that are happy and not happy as that way all the members can see it and let them find the one that they like for what ever

First let me say that i like what you did with your car, I agree with you that there is plenty of people who do have CAIs and no tune and haven't had any issues whatsoever. And if you see my post # 3 on this thread you can see that i said so, and if more member want to let use know how there CAI is working for them i will post that to, As to people needing to do the research i agree with that but most will not and you and i have seen more then our share of that on this site to date, And if you look at how Meany of the Forum are guests (736 right now) If i remember right All the guests do not have the right to do a search on this forum.

FWIW...like many others here. I have 3" cat back on for 1000 miles now, then added the R-F CAI 300+ miles ago and to date, no codes. (knock on wood!!)
It might have helped that I pulled 5 & 20 fuses overnight right after I installed the CAI.
thanks ffrcobra_65 for that , Any one want to help.

Not trivial!

Hi guys,

This is interesting to me and I've been waiting for it. Building an intake system isn't trivial! I worked for K&N for some time and the testing and retesting is insane! The MAF placement is very critical and I've seen a lot of tuner shops trying to build systems. I personally would only buy intake system built by experts; i.e. Airaid, K&N, AEM. Andy at ADM has his stuff together as well though so I'm not saying they are all bad....

What systems are causing problems??

Kind regards,
