Third brake light not working properly.

I was looking at my third brake light when I was stopped at traffic lights (early morning). Most of the time it did not come on and other times it would shut off half way through the light. Does anyone know if this is covered under warranty or have a solution. My warranty is up next month.

Question: How were you looking at your 3rd brake light if you were sitting at a traffic light? Sitting at a traffic light to me means you were either the driver, or a passenger and jumped out to look before the light turned green that's if that's why you were at a traffic light. Just asking. To answer your question if you still have bumper to bumper my guess would be yes. If you only have drive train then the answer is no. I am not 100% sure but isn't your 3rd brake light LED? If so I would check to see if there is a fuse or not, if not then possible a wire problem. Dealer should figure that out pretty quick if it is a wire. Hope this helps.

It was early in the morning and it is dark out. I can see it turn on while sitting in the drivers seat.

On a 2012? No, no longer under warranty.

I would crawl into the trunk and look for anything obvious like a loose connector or crunched wire. Stuff happens in the trunk.

Mine is doing the same thing for a while now. From the trunk there's no exposed wires or connectors to the light. I think the guts are all behind the trim panels in the back seat and under the rear shelf. Seems like I read on here that someone had the dealer replace the 3rd brake light and they charged something like $400. I'm certainly not doing that....

Ahhh ok I did not think of that. I am guessing that you have a coupe. As stated the wires are behind the trim and rear seat from what I have read. It is a tough DIY but I am sure it can be done. I wish you luck and hope you can get it fixed if you choose to.
