Texas speed header leak

Just installed my tsp lt and cannot get rid of leak where the headers connect to mid pipe. Any ideas? Used a cheater bar and cranked down on it. Using the provided clamp.

No need for a dang cheater bar when tightening stuff down. Are the 2 ends butted up against each other?

Agreed, cheater bar = asking for trouble.

As mentioned, are you tightening the mid pipe to the Header 1st?

I always get them mach'd up but loose and look at the angle I want headers and cats/mid pipes to connect, but then hold them in place and tighten mid pipe to Headers 1st, then hook exhaust to the mid pipe.

As asked above, when you free fit them together, do you notice any gaps? gouges? How bad is the angle? I know they are ball sockets and should seal at different angles, but if it is too extreme of an angle could be the problem.

Good Luck!

They are not ball sockets. Where the leak is there is not pipe to be plush with. It just slips over the headers.

Are they lap joint clamps? Might want to get some of those if they aren't. I know those clamps cured the majority of the leaking that was coming from my collector to midpipe area.

TSP headers are slip fit. No flange, no butt connections.

Mine leaked a bit at first. I just had to keep tightening them down. An option would be to use a different type of clamp. The guys that use the Speed Engineering headers should know the best clamps to use. They use the same type of collector (slip fit).

If the slip fit is not tight, send parts back. The only way to solve quality problems is refusing to accept poor quality.

Is it time for a "should have bought Kooks or AR" comment?

exhaust leak

The connection at CAT to mid pipe are you using the factory clamps? They are slip fit at CAT to header and butt connection at mid pipe to CAT connection. Factory clamp works great at mid pipe.

A picture of the connection and clamps will help a lot in trying to help you find a solution

My Speed Engineering midpipes slip fit over the header end, then butt ends with the stock catback at 2.5in. I used a universal band clamp I got from my local Auto Zone and it hasn't had a problem since haha.

Not sure what happened once I had the shop install my SW retro catback. I'm assuming it was 3in from start to finish so a slip fit there would have worked. Wouldn't surprise me if he dude did a shoddy weld job there instead considering he did everywhere else

You could use some exhaust sealant.
