New camaro owner questions
Hey guys, so right now the engine is being replaced with a remanufactured motor (i guess that is new and still has the break in period) i would like a few tips since this is my first car
This may seem stupid. But how can i not blow the motor up and still have fun, and are doing pulls or revving the car bad? I rode a yamaha r6 for most of my life so i don't know anything about cars, motors or anything in those lines |

Keep the tach below the red line and change the oil when you are supposed to.

Follow what the builder recommends. My guess will be no revving or doing pulls for the first couple thousand miles.

If you have the V6, I'd invest in a catch can as ASAP.

If the manual is in the car do the new engine or car break in procedure, read it is good advice.... for a new engine generally start up and running you drain the oil after a few initial settings or dyno tuning during the usual 30 minute break in for most engines... Hopefully the dealer will do a break in of the engine; revs I believe in the 3000 range for 20-30 minutes which some think oh its ..roller cam the cam does not need broken in...well the engine does, its valve seals, rings, etc it's everything needs to clean out any left over metal from the machining process and let some wear occur with a good high ZDDP mineral non synthetic oil. Then run it with the mineral oil for a few thousand miles while not getting on it at first for those couple Thousand miles....would be my advice.... My current engine I did a br30 dyno break in,( Driven racing oil), dumped oil, did 500 miles or so on br30 then changed oil to vr30 for a couple thousand then on to Ls30 synthetic Driven racing oil made for a modified engine. You most likely could just do some VR1 for a couple thousand then drain it, the stock engine and its cam works well with the Dexos blend for most stock applications but remember the oiling system is made for 5w30 and keep a eye on the oil level while breaking it in for a couple thousand miles. Heres a manual I have, https://my.chevrolet.com/content/dam...aro_owners.pdf Basic things I think it says are don't go over like 80 and vary speed the first 500 miles generally for a new car.....Anyway maybe some one has the official procedure I know lots of people believe what ever they want...... Good Luck , many just do a 1500 mile change of the oil on a new Camaro to make sure they don't run the oil too long with crap in it also in the past on here off the lot....

^ Yeah or you could just drive the damned car too..... OP I wouldn't beat on it right away but I wouldn't completely baby it either. You are gunshy as you had an unfortunate experience with your new car. And I'm sorry to hear this happened to you as the Camaro is a pretty bulletproof car especially the V8's but the later V6's are pretty solid too. The earlier V6's had some rod knock issues as well as timing chain problems I'm hoping your 2010 is a V8?
Drive the car and enjoy it and hopefully this is all behind you soon. |

It's a v6, what does the catch can do? Quote:
V6 ;/ the rod knock is what i got, so basically, my only question now is, after the break in period, will it really damage the engine if i do pulls, or wait to shift up until like 5-6k roms? I honestly just love the sound of it when you start winding it out I'm terrified of even trying to have any fun with my camaro now because i'm worried it'll blow up. |

These engines are designed to be rev'ved. They make their power high up in the rpm range. With the stock tune, there is a rev limiter which cuts off the fuel supply after a certain rpm as well. I wouldn't worry about pulling up to redline after breaking it in properly. These engines love high rpms. |
