Brake line torque value?

This coming weekend I will be installing freshly powder coated Brembo Calipers As I was going over the detailed directions and listing all the torque values I found one that really surprised me.

The brake line that attaches to the caliper with the two crush washer and the banjo bolt is listed at 30 pounds of torque?

That seems to be a lot of torque, considering the threaded areas of the Brembo's calipers seem to be the weakest link.

Your thoughts on this and what value do you apply?

I checked the service manuals, several years for SS's Brembos. All show 30 lb ft for that bolt on the front and rear calipers.

It's been there so many years (all 5th/6th gen), I doubt it's a typo. 2010s-2018s show the same value.

Thanks for the reply and I agree with you that it is not a typo. I even asked my local GM dealership, yup...30 foot pounds.

Just seems so darn much steel banjo bolt going into aluminum casing with such fine threads?

Even the powder coater stated he thought that 30 foot pounds was excessive, he recommended around 18?

I wouldn't try to outthink the engineers, that spec has worked perfect for many years. Make sure to use two new OE crush gaskets on each. Those have to crush a bit to make the seal.

I looked up Corvette, it's the same 30 for all recent year Corvettes.
