Question Camaro as a police car?

What do you think about the Camaro being a specialty high speed pursuit vehicle for the police? If memory serves the Michigan State Police used to have Mustangs for that purpose and I recall seeing Camaro/Firebirds as police cars in Kentucky before. I know there are some LEOs on this board so I'm curious if they think it would work for that type of assignment.

Yep there is a thread on here about many Camaros that are already in service on patrol.

I'd rather not. The less Camaros on the road, the more special it is. Why would you want Camaros side by side with Crown Vics?

The Camaro would be used for special high speed pursuit situations that the Crown Vics weren't capable of handling. A lot of highway patrol departments around the country used the Mustang 5.0 and Camaro in the late 80's and early 90's because Camaros and Mustangs were outrunning the Caprices and Crown Vics. A lot of departments went to the Camaro because they handled a lot better and stuck to the road better.

I found it kinda odd that they opted for the 4800.00 21" wheels. lol

Not really concerned about the extra cost I guess.

Here's the Oklahoma ones. Money was donated so no biggie. NO 21" wheels either. lmao

The Camaro looks pretty sexy when loaded out for police duty. Something about that awesome SS front + a slim lightbar on top

For the first time we hosted the Formula 1 here in Abu Dhabi, so they decided to make some really special "Formula 1" Cop cars for the event, There was some other pics goin around on the BlackBerry messenger also showing about 3-4 CAMAROs and GTRs after they were transformed to "snitches".

And if I aint mistaken they also made an ADPOLICE Formula car, but it was just for show and commercial.

I believe the reason the 21s were put on were for the smoother ride... but any drug money or sort of money seized is supposed to be used for equipment procurement, so, if you could build a camaro with someone elses money, would you load it up?

I think if the department has the money ( like drug money ) not budget money.... They should be able to buy Camaro for a TRAFFIC unit. I know in some stated that have turnpikes the highway patrol is funded with the tolls and have more money and a better need for a Camaro on a long highway.
This is something everyone will never agree on, my Camaro is fully equiped with police equipment at MY cost !... I use my vehicle for show most the time. In Oklahoma some Sheriff Dept. are allowed to let deputies use thier POV and can equip them.
In todays police & sheriff departments they have started using veicles that was not used in the past, 4x4 trucks and sports vehicles ect.,
Arkansas used the 2002 camaro with markings on the right side of the vehicle only as an Aggressive driver campagin , where they drove in the right lane and when you would fly passed at a high speed.... they would pull up on your left side so you could see the markings and then pull behind you to stiop you/. In our city they are using a number of unmarked vehicles all colors working traffic for speeders and ect.
Of cousre not everyone willl agree but I think they shoulld use whatever they need to get the job done in a legal manner.
