Got a quote for gears

I was quoted $1200 for 391's installed. This includes the parts cost. Is this a fair quote? It seems a bit high to me.

For a Wrangler it seems like $1000 per axle is the average cost to do gears(where I live). Camaro gears seem to run $200-$300 more than wrangler gears so I'd say $1200 isn't too far off the mark.

I got quotes for providing the parts and it was $700. Add the $450 for the gm kit and you get $1150 so pretty close.

I ask first how many hours it will take to do the job. Then I ask for a full quote with breakdown of parts and labor. If the quoted parts price is too high I get the parts myself. If the labor hours to dollars are too high I go elsewhere...

Thats not really that bad, its right around the ball park. If you do find any other place that’ll be cheaper it wont be my much. Also it might end up being less if they dont take as long as they quoted you for. When I had my gears installed I ended paying about 100 less than what they had quoted because they didn’t take as long.

I spent on all almost $900. I supplied the gm 1le gears and the master install kit. $1200 is about right if the shop supplies everything.

Ok, thanks guys. I'm going to visit the shop Monday and put down a deposit so he can order the parts. Hopefully I'm shredding tires in a couple weeks.

Now I'm getting really itchy to see how the car will be after I add a gpi cam kit which will be next after the gears are broken in.
