How Often Do You Guys With Cams / Modified Camaros Change Your Oil?

I was told to change my oil after I got my cam, every 3000 miles! I use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic! I check my oil often! I just checked it today and it almost looks the way it did when I changed it almost 3500 miles ago! I don't drive my car hard, I will occasionally get on it! How often do you guys change your oil?

Every 5 k..... driven racing ls30. Its full synth made for modified LS engines, $11 a quart. High ZDDP , great sheer with MPAO made to survive, I also use br30 for break in. I may not need it but hey that base is covered..also 8620 core … Many use Mobil and if it works for you that's good, your oil changes most likely assure the zddp levels never get low enough in the formulation to damage a cam etc.... Oil formulations now change every so often and are changing big time with low low grades with low zddp due to people driving turbo 2 liter kind of stuff....and oil is more engine specific now than ever for lots of cars...I usually get my oil changed when its up in the four thousands and order it at Baxter. But I believe in of course not just engine but also cam break in on engine regardless of it being a roller.

And break in for the Camaro is part of the manual for new Camaros; just with the engine being ran at the factory for its break in ; which is not as in a hot rod shops break in for 20-30 minutes up and down the rpm range then a couple heat cycles for the springs ; some dyno runs maybe tuning while break in….and drain and replace as break ins require break in oil non synth. And me I add another round of break in oil for 4-500 miles then to vr1 high zddp conventional for a few thousand making sure all the happy little parts wear in the needed amount to seal well and break in to performing sealed and happy..... SO yup

Depending on how hard the car get driven. If I have any track days, I'll usually change the oil after the sessions are over, regardless of how much mileage is on the oil before. Cheap insurance. Normally though, I change the oil every 3000-4000 miles, religiously. Again, not necessary according to the Blackstone reports I receive back, but feels like cheap insurance to me, and based on the reports I get back on the contents of the oil as it relates to wear on the motor, all looks great.

I usually change it when the oil life indicator reads at about 25%. I use Amsoil ZRod 10w30.

My 2011 SS the oil was changed every 3500 miles right from the very beginning religiously no mater what. When we just tore the engine apart 2 weeks ago to do a cam swap, DOD delete and LS3 conversion, my shop techs couldn't believe how very clean the inside of the engine was, he said you could eat off it!! lol. I also ran the ZMAX oil treatment in the engine every 6000 miles and Lucas fuel injector cleaner 1 a month. After the cam swap my tuner recommended 10w30 of whichever top shelf brand I wanted to use, he also said that the Mobil 1 was fine since I have been using it from the get go. He uses it in his builds and personal built CTSV, and his 2 C7 vettes.

Hey guys that's some great info, thank you! So should I, after reading a couple of the comments, switch to 10w 30? I currently use the 5w 30 in the Mobile 1!

About every 5-6k. Any more often than that is just throwing money away. With the exception of track days and extreme driving of course.

I haven't had any real mileage accumulation since I put my cam in. But it will be every 5K or spring whichever comes first. It's always spring.

3k miles
I run non-synthetic though

When I used synthetic I would just do it when the alert came on the dash.
