Need Help Cleaning My A/C System
There's kind of a bad smell coming through my A/C when I turn it on so I figure I might as well clean it. What's the procedure to doing this? I have a repair manual that goes into this a little but it isn't all that clear. It just tells me to spray disinfectant into the cabin air filter intake and to make sure the evaporator housing drain tube is clear, but I don't know where that tube is and the manual doesn't show me.

Sometimes what the smell can be is turning off the a/c without letting the fan run for awhile after. The cold air in the vents condensates and can produce a musty smell.

To locate the drain tube turn on the AC and trace the drip from water coming off of it, my old GMC had a nasty smell coming from the AC system as well; a filter replacement and Lysol sprayed thru the inlet vents by the windshield then placed on recirculate took care of that. If the moisture from the system does not drain out thru the tube it creates bacteria in the vent system which is more than likely what you smell. To check or clear obstructions i use trimmer line, i use about a 2.5 foot length folded in half with the loop part going into the tube so i can "twirl" and drag out whatever is causing the blockage.
