Arrow How much rwhp and rwtq can a L99 engine handle?

After my warranty is over I am considering running a Procharger P1SC or D1SC and I wanted to know how much rwhp and rwtq can a stock L99 engine handle with a good tune before failures start to happen? What is the rwhp and rwtq limit to stay at with the stock L99 engine before you have upgrade to forged rods and pistons? What are the best engine upgrades to consider for forced induction to protect a stock L99 engine?

If you are doing a p1sc or d1sc you will not need to worry about reliability

650 is the limit of the trans. Some will say the AFM lifters, which require removal of the heads to change so, if you are going FI - you should pick up a set of LSA heads and only pay the labor once. These heads have a thicker deck and a better casting process that is better for FI. The crank should be happy till 800 or so. The rear end is tire choice dependant from everything I read... Some guys are fine with 650, others broke the spider gears at 380-400 with slicks.

If anything will give out is the trans first. Not sure how the l99 lifters hold up but you could always just do the DOD kit and swap in ls7 lifters. rest should be fine. rear end will be good unless you wheel hop

Does the same logic apply to the LS3/6060 combo? I'm getting 315 NT05s in the back and shooting for 600-650 HP but will have trailing arms, cradle bushings and toe rods. Therefore I don't expect wheel hop but that doesn't solve the torque problem.

My guess would be if you don't wheel hop it will be the pinion gear giving out. Just speculating. I've done rolls for the most part in my car so it hasn't seen much 1st gear WOT hits. Standard cars are a lot harder on rear ends then autos for sure.

The Tranny is much more of a concern than the engine especially if you do the DOD the engine can handle it as CGbambam mentioned.

The TR6060 can handle more hp (I've read ~750-800) then the stock auto. The wheel hop will tend to take out axles though.

Yeah i wouldn't worry about the transmission itself if its a tr6060, I been beating mine on the highway at about 1100hp already for about 6 months already. But I also never punch it in 1st gear or from a dig

I've did 730whp daily for a long time on 100% stock L99, stock cam and everything. Trans died and I swapped in a ZL1 6L90. Run's 10.6's in total shit track prep 4000DA. I'm sure I could make it run 9's if I wanted to drag car it up.

If you are going to do the DOD delete you may as well put a real cam in too.

Not to hijack but how long did the 6l80 last for you at that power? And if you did it again would you still go with the 6L90 or go for the 4l80? I have been running your kit for 2yrs now and we are looking to turn it up this year (running 7ish lbs.) and have a motor built at the end of the year and hoping to make 800-900whp.

6L80 lasted a few thousand miles at that power level.
I would for sure, 100% no question go 6L90 at that power level. We've done lots of 4L80 cars here and that is not for me.
Only thing I like the 4L80 for is a drag race car, well over 1000+whp.

Where did you source the 6L90 from?
