V8'ers, you like the factory valve covers? Check this out!
The factory valve covers are cast aluminum with some awful silver paint on them. I thought I would try to make them better.
They have a nasty casting flash around the perimeter of the bottom edge which is easy enough to remove with a file or dremel tool. ![]() Here is one I started next one untouched. ![]() The more you sand and the finer the sandpaper, you can begin to see a shine emerging. After some sanding with a mouse sander and 180 grit I went to hand sanding with 220, 400, 600 and 1500 grit with soapy water. ![]() After some buffing it really starts to look good. ![]() They are far from perfect and there some tight spots to get into, but it looks miles better than before. ![]() ![]() Here it is on the motor, looks pretty good with the Jet Hot ceramic coated headers. ![]() One side all together, one more to go. I hope with what I learned on the first one makes the next one go much faster. ![]() ![]()

Looks Nice! Did you seal them with a high temp clear coat? If not, they'll likely dull and oxidize over time, but they really look sweet at this point ....

I was going to polish mine, took one look at the surface, then bought Holleys. Figured it would spare my OCD a lot of sleepless nights trying to get them perfect. I did spend time with a buffing wheel on them to get them even brighter.

LOL Same here. I like the diagonal coil mounts and the elimination of the bracket. But those polished stockers came out great.

Cool. Are the headers the ones from OTTP? How did the install go with them?

I am going to stick with my red powdercoated coil brackets, you can still see enough of the valve cover.
