Ss Camaro reverse light removal

Hi guys,

I have just found a wire hanging down from my rear bumper that comes out from under the spare tyre well. My reverse lights are not working so I’m assuming it’s that.

Can I access the reverse lights by just taking off the rear diffuser or does the whole bumper have to come off?

Thanks

Yep, the whole rear bumper needs to come off. See post7 in this thread for pics & video of how to and what the reverse light wiring harness looks like. Good luck.

Thanks guys,

I have the rear bumper off and the lamps are fine so now chasing a circuit fault.

Can’t find which fuse is reverse lamps, some of the wiring is a little weird as the car was built for export into the Japanese market, (no onstar etc)

The car is an auto and has a hurst shifter but I doubt that interferes with the reverse switch

I'm not sure which fuse includes the reverse lights...I think they might be controlled by the BCM. Are all the other lights on the back bumper working?

If so, on the driver's side plug on the car, there should be a light green/teal wire. This should supply power to the reverse lights. I would check there to see if the plug has power. If the plug has power, then there is something going on with the harness on the bumper.

What Bee said. The rear harness is BCM controlled and powers all rear lights including the reverse lights with no separate reverse light fuse. Here’s a vid of a guy who removed the rear bumper because he lost his reverse lights because a mouse chewed the harness …just saying

If so, on the passenger's side plug on the car, there should be two black wires. Both of those supply power to the reverse lights. I would check there to see if the plug has power. If the plug has power, then there is something going on with the harness on the bumper.
I am terribly sorry, I have to issue a correction to my previous statement. I'm in the process of installing a back-up camera and the instructions provided said to tap into one of the two black wires on the passenger side. When I went to test the camera, it didn't turn on...so those black wires are not for the reverse lights (they are probably just grounds for the back lights). After digging around some more on the forum, I think it should be the light green/teal wire on the driver's side harness that is supplying power to the reverse lights. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to re-route the wire over to confirm but I will be doing that this weekend and can report back.

The reverse lights only come on when you hit the unlock button (as long as it is dark enough) or when the car is running and in reverse. They will not come on with just the ignition in the run position, which makes it difficult to test without someone else's assistance.
