Air Cleaner stuffed with dried leaves

Just bought a 15 Camaro v6 and the engine was acting funny, was hesitating and surging. Pulled the air filter out and found it was stuffed with dried leaves. Not sure how this could happen but it runs great now. Maybe a squirrel stuffed it there?

Well I have a update on this, its not squirrels. The is picking them up while driving, if you drive it through leaves then check the air box it has leaves in it. Not sure how to stop this from happening. I've cleaned it several times now.

Is it a stock Air Filter or after market? If after market what brand some don't have sealed cover on them. And the ones that don't usually fit tight to the hood for full air suction.

Its stock, the car may have been in a accident and maybe something is missing by the air cleaner ass.

yup once every 3 months i take my stock airbox out dump out the leaves and wash down the whole housing and intake tube dry it and put it back together. i like doing it feels cathartic and enjoyable to just zone out and focus on something like working on your car even if its just maintenance i also have a V6 5th gen

Put one leg of an old panty hose over the filter until leaves are gone. Makes it easier to clean off.
