hey all y'all who know more about the intricacies of the LS3; , ticking at idle & speeds up when rev'ed... normal or not?

I don't know about the intricacies part but what I do know is that at first start, a very subtle ticking sound is there but goes away after a few min when the oil has made its full round of lubrication. Normal. But you could also be hearing the fuel injectors, not a big deal either. A ticking sound that follows the RPM and won't go away is another issue.

Your fuel injectors make clicking/ticking noises. Especially when cold. If its a knocking sound however, you've got problems.

I don't know about the LS3 engines but I assume it would be simular to the LS2 engine that was in my 05 GTO. And it was just naturally noisy. Especially when you first started it cold. When you first started out you could here the lifters rattling and piston slap knocking. I was always afraid to get on it any till it warmed up. Once it got warmed up it was relatively quiet.
