Spare tire is 40 lbs./jack 5 lbs.

For those who care, on my scales the spare tire weighs 40 lbs. and the jack and tools are another 5 lbs. Also the spare tire is a 155/70/18 and is about 2 inches smaller in diameter than my LS's 245/55/18's. It is for temporary use and has 60 lbs pressure.

Thanks for the post. As of yesterday, the GM customer service rep was holding fast to her statement that using sealants in speed rated tires is safe "because the manual says so.." which I found a little lacking - as Pirelli is of the opposite opinion. Here in Texas where we have had months of days in the high 90s (and many over 100) I still believe a spare is the safest answer to making it to the dealer/tire store. I have the 20 inch tires on my RS - which I have not tried to get into the trunk - but that could be another problem related to spares. Lastly, the replacement can of sealant is $90 from the dealer, which they say you must use. Pirelli says all sealants void the warranty - period - so the downside would be if you use another sealer and the tire pressure sealants fail - then I guess GM could void the warranty on those.

This warranty panic about the tires is a waste of breath!!! They are performance tires and won't be lasting long anyway, and Pirelli would only warranty defects in craftsmanship anyway, manufacture (Pirelli)warranty claims on a tire are a nightmare to prove if the tire is anything more than flat and not an obvious defect!!

After dealing with both the Pirelli and GM customer service reps, I have to agree. About the only thing either will warrant are defects in materials - not road hazards, etc. One post I saw mentioned a road hazard warranty from Discount Tire for less than $300. Having had a flat (due to a pot hole) in the first 30 days and less than 2,500 miles, I may invest in that. In then end, I think the bigger issues are is the sealant safe (Pirelli still says not to use it) and if you do, the replacement can of sealant is $80 from the dealer. The spare tire option is $150 from the factory and cost the dealer $120. I think both options should be free.

Hi Guys,
For any of you out there that have the spare tire/jack/lug wrench and want to trade for the inflator kit and sealant for the weight savings, I would like to do that trade. My 2LT came with the sealant and I want the spare tire.
Shoot me a private message and I am sure we can work something out. I am in the Phoenix, Az area.

cheers,

Bill
