PLS HELP! P0008 Timing Chain Replaced, No Change. (FIXED)

Hello,

Hello,

I have 2011 Camaro V6 Cabrio at 55.000miles. I had check engine light which throws P0008,P0009 codes, my car was running sluggish, extreme power loss...

I had replaced the timing chain with Cloyes kit next month. But still check engine light is on with an additional P0016 code(P0008-P0009 still there). My car is still running sluggish, nothing changed..

Today i got replaced the 4 VVT Sprockets(cam phasers) with new ones. Still no change.

I am so disappointed. What should i do next?

Thanks.

Yes, the problem is finally found! It's reluctor wheel! Skipped 1.5 teeth...
My mechanics fixed the issue without removing the crank.. YES it's TRUE! He gently and carefully applied force and take the wheel to the original position. BUT BE CAREFUL YOU MAY BREAK THE WHEEL!! He also applied a mini tack weld to avoid any further movements.. My car is back!! Day and night difference... It's a shame that GM's engine has such an important manufacturing defect!!!!!!!!! I recommend everybody who experience P0008, P0009, P0016, P0017 timing related DTCs to CHECK RELUCTOR WHEEL POSITION before replacing the chains... It's very easy... Just remove the oil pan and check the teeth to make sure it's 3.5 teeth away from the crank's edge.

Thanks everybody for helping my issue...

Without doing a proper diagnoses you really have no idea what the computer is seeing from the cam sensors. Is there metal debris stuck on the sensors? Are the sensors bad? Has the reluctor wheel slipped out of position on the crankshaft<thats my guess.

don't think your timing chains are set up properly
DTC P0016
- Crankshaft Position - Intake Camshaft Position Not Plausible Bank 1
P0008 P0009
Your Crankshaft Reluctor Wheel could be Out of Position?

I changed all 4 cam sensors(ACDELCO), 4 vvt selenoid sensors(OEM aftermarket), timing chain(cloyes), VVT sprockets(OEM aftermarket). Changed crankshaft sensor(ACDELCO).. Nothing changed.. Car is running sluggish..

For the reluctor wheel.. I heard it's very rare.. Didn't check it.. If reluctor wheel is the issue, can we fix it without replacing crankshaft completely?

Do you know any experienced V6 mechanics guy in the forum? My case is really complicated.. I'm lost..

Some applications you can use a bore scope through the crankshaft position sensor hole without removing the oil pan

Hi mate thanks a lot for the reply, what exactly should i check? How do i understand reluctor wheel is good/bad by using a bore scope through cranshaft sensor hole? Can i see the problem clearly?

Hi man.. Thanks for your help.. Appreciated it..
I didn't see the repairing process.. Unfortunately my mechanics didn't take any pictures....

He told that he applied force to both reluctor wheel and crank metal(opposite to each other) very gently and slowly.. once the position reaches to the 3.5 teeth he applied a mini tack weld to avoid further slip...

He was very surprised that he never seen such a manufacturing defect before.. This wheel is screwed to crank in all modern cars... Under high pressure and high temperature this wheel slips easily..

He also warned that never try to position the wheel yourself.. You will end up broken wheel.. Anyway it's still better to remove the crank to complete this job... Thanks a lot..

Any time you see codes 008 and 009 together its a sure bet the reluctor wheel has moved because the chains don't wear evenly. The bank 1 0008 wears faster that bank 2 0009 so normally you would see 0008 1st then if you continue to drive it for a long time 0009 will show up. Nice fix, glad you got your mojo back.
