Oil Pressure and temp concern.

So I'm a little worried about my LS3. I recently rebuilt the engine and put a TSP stage 3 cam in it. I've noticed on highway cruising my oil temp sits real close to 250° and close to 2k RPM and the oil pressure is at 30psi.

I know for a fact my main bearing clearances are just a touch bigger than spec. I thought about getting a higher volume oil pump to fill up that extra space and maybe lowering the oil temp.?

At a cold start, the oil pressure is 50psi, and when it warms up all the way the pressure is at 15psi or a little more.

What do you guys think I can do to lower the temp? because I'm pretty sure the temp is not supposed to get this high.

Thank you!

As others have said, I think temp wise you're fine. Mine runs 220 to 240 normally. Close to 250 when doing 1/4 mile runs.

As far as oil pressure, I think mine runs closer to 40psi when cruising at 70, but I'm not cammed.

My 416 stroker runs around 230 on Temps here in FL 95deg weather, and 30psi idle at 850rpm, 40psi at 2000rpm cruise and around 60psi in upper rpms. Thats with a hi pressure hi vol. Mellings oil pump.

Anyway if it were me I would install the mellings hi press hi volume pump and install the COPO spring that comes with it.

Might consider running a heavier oil.

Agree with the others…My oil temp runs around 230 with normal driving, 245-255 when roll racing and cooling it down every two runs.

Damn you guys, I was stupid and decided to use the blue spring on my melling oil pump. My pressure is around 28 - 27 psi at idle with 250- 260 degree temps. Oil temp rises, but I’ve never seen the oil go to 70 psi. I always wondered, because of the 10 psi / 1,000 rpm rule... the max my oil pressure had ever gotten is 50 during a hard 7,000 rpm pull. Always runs fine though. I’m lucky if I ever see 50 psi when she’s all warmed up lol

The reason you never see over 50 psi is because if the pressure relief valve in the oil pan. It just bypasses the oil anything over 50 psi. I plugged mine and get over 50 psi at higher rpm's now with the melling 10355hv pump with the high pressure spring. I also have 33 psi at idle and 50 psi at cruising or anything over like 1500 rpm.

I get 62psi at 6800rpm with the stock oil pan pressure relief valve in place.
Of course this is a different block, different oil and different pump, but the pressure relief valve doesnt seem to stop me from exceeding 50psi.

Vr1 20w50. dart block, Melling "select" HP pump. 50psi at idle.

Wow that's awesome! Are sure they didn't remove the valve? I didn't think they would do that.

Nice. My pressures are running pretty much the same as yours. I have the Melling 10295 pump in mine. Cold starts she will almost peg 70 psi until it warms a bit and will sit right at 60 psi.

Yeah I'm really happy with this pump. Before I got it in there I thought my main and rod bearings were shot. But I guess all and all I just didn't have the right pump for the l99. But now with my pressures at where they are I feel like this engine is going to last forever. lol 😆.
