Fix your low passenger seat for FREE!

I did this mod a long time ago but never posted about because I thought it was such a simple duh mod. Well, I keep seeing people posting about it so I thought I would snap a few pics and post them up.

As most of you know the non adjustable passenger seat in our 2010-2011 Camaros sits a little low. For us regular height and tall folks it's not a problem, but for our vertically challenged friends it is. My wife is 5'2 and said she felt like a little kid sitting in the passenger seat. I figured raising the rear of the seat would easily solve this. I took the seat loose and was surprised that it was only held in by some tabs up front and two very long Torx 50 bolts out back. The back also had a locating pin next to the bolts. The problem with the way this seat is set up, in regards to raising it, is that I wouldn't want to raise it too much that the locating pin comes completely out of the locating hole. If it had two bolts also holding the seat down up front I wouldn't worry about it. So I decided to keep the rear spacers small to keep the locating pins functional, keep a good amount of the bolt's threads engaged and also not put too much stress on the bolts in case of a crash. I put in some 1/2" nuts as spacers and tightened it down. If you got some longer bolts you could put in a thicker spacer, but like I said the locating pins wouldn't sit in the hole anymore and you would have only 4 things holding the seat in place instead of 6.

The result was GREAT, I didn't think that 1/2" would make such a big difference but it really does. Now obviously you can't tell anything was done to the seat unless you sit in it and instantly feel a little taller. I set up a piece of tape on my head rest to use as a control point to take a forward view picture. That way I could take an exact before and after picture to show the real outward view difference.

All in all this mod should take about 5 minutes. Here are the pics.

Not to piss on the parade but I wouldn't want to be in that seat during an accident.

My wife is a little taller than 5'2", but she still complains about how low the passenger seat is and that she can't see out. She uses a towel folded several times to raise her "butt" up in the seat. But your solution is so simple, I wonder why I didn't think of it.

Question ...... some of the pictures are hard to follow, what is the picture of the "spring" trying to show? If all you are doing is removing the rear torx bolt, sliding a 1/2" nut spacer under it and tightening the bolt back down, why all the other pictures?

What spring?

Never heard anyone complain about too many pictures for a how to, LOL.
I think the pictures are very straight forward.

#1 is a picture of the seat slid all the way forward to access the bolts.

#2 is the rear of the bracket lifted up with the bolt unscrewed

#3 is the bracket bolted back down with the spacer installed

#4 is a piece of tape so I can take two pictures from the same reference point

#5 is a view from the passenger seat before the spacers

#6 is a view from the passenger seat after the spacers

Wouldn't it be "safer" if one was to buy 2 new bolts that were just a little longer before doing this... ?

I'd imagine you lost about 1/2 of the thread strength by backing it out that much.

Oh lord do people complain just to complain? If the Torx bolt goes back into the mounting nut for as deep as the mounting nut is, you lose no strength! What would the difference be if the Torx sticks out from the bottom 3/4 of and inch vs 1/4? Nothing.
