DSX flex fuel system

I'm sure this has been answered and my search results haven't exactly come up with anything solid. Few years back I did headers catless catback and removed the downstream O2, never tuned, and I've paid the price in multiple new O2 sensors and plugs and finally decided it was time to bite the bullet and you know, tune it.

I was thinking it'd be nice to run e85, and get the DSX flex fuel setup added at the same time but wanted to know what is A) mandatory to upgrade from stock to do so B) what things are highly recommended when doing so.

Remember you won't gain much power running e85 on naturally aspirated.

yeah i know that. finding gas stations around me with greater than 90 is pretty hard, but I've got a station just down the road with e85 and considering its cheaper I was like welllllll makes sense to me! and I'll be ready for when I boost someday down the road (I wish)

Don't forget that you will use about 30% more fuel when considering the cost of e85.

Maybe someone else will chime in since I don't remember how much the stock fuel pump will handle but I think you will need to upgrade to at least the ZL1 pump and injectors. You probably should decide on your tuner and discuss with them what is needed. If you are considering forced injection then you might want to upgrade the fuel system to handle that goal.

yeah that is one of those things I considered, I have been looking at fuel pumps and considered injectors as well, so at least I wasn't overlooking that.

^^^ this for sure. Great info. I have a couple friends that did the e85 thing on their NA'd builds and they didn't get much. Needless to say they didn't listen to reason about it, and were dissapointed, and they don't have any plans to go FI.. And yea you will burn a lot more of it. So think this through all the way before you do it. Good luck.

At the minimum, I'd say you need the flex fuel kit (DSX or DIY), and have your FPCM tuned. Your stock injectors will probably be fine as long as you maintain a mostly stock motor (no heads/cam). Stepping up your game in these areas, or F/I, will necessitate an upgraded fuel system and injectors to maintain E85.

Aside from the lack of huge gains and increased fuel consumption, E85 burns cleaner and smells great!!

Where I'm at, 93 octane is about $3.80/gall and E85 is $2.35/gal. Even with the increased fuel consumption, I'm still spending less to fill up with E85 than 93.

motor is more or less stock beyond like intake and headers so yeah. I wanna get cammed one of these days, F/I would be great but definitely, things I've considered already, being my daily in the snowy midwest F/I is a no-go till I've got another car for my daily haha.

Where I live it's about the same, 93 (if I can even find 93) is usually about $4.00/gal lately whereas I've seen E85 for about $2.50 so even if I burn more of it I figure I'm coming out ahead, and yes the smell, friends honda runs the corn juice and I'm always like I need that haha.

As long as it's over 60% E your good.
ZL1 pump and injectors will do most NA builds.
