Oil change interval question

Hi folks I have a 2011 LS with about 80K on it the car runs great and I've really enjoyed it since I bought it in June. I was wondering if people with these cars (or really any car I guess) are following the car's recommendation on when to change the oil or are you going by a different schedule? I ask because it's been about three months since my last change, but my oil indicator is still at 40% and I have only put about 2500 miles on the car since. I used to religiously do oil changes every three months myself for all my daily driver cars no matter what the mileage was, but that was before these oil life indicators became standard on most vehicles.

I realize I may get 300 different opinions on this, but I was just wondeirng what other folks do with theirs- the car oil life indicator message, the months (3) or the mileage (3k). Or, some other time frame lol.

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Every 5K for a daily. If you're racing, then more and it's all dependent on how you're built and what you're doing with it.

I absolutely do not pay attention to the oil life monitor unless it's my leased vehicle. Once it tells me to change it then I do but thats because I dont own the car. If I owned it.... 5k.

5k interval for DD. After the cam it was recommended to do a 5w-40 and 3k oil change interval.

I use the oil monitor as a 'guide.' I NEVER go on long trips so more time goes by than miles. I change mine when it hits about 45%. Which usually translates to about 2500 miles and 5- 6 months. I have AFM lifters that are tuned out. Just want it clean!

My Camaro is 14 years old with 132k on the clock, when she was a daily I changed it every 3500 miles, even after the cam swap. Now that she isn't a daily anymore, 4500 is my change mileage.

I'm not one for doing oil changes by mileage.

For the 5th gens- Once a year. At 13K and 3K miles on the odometers respectively, time happens before mileage.

Mobil 1 5w-30.

2020 GMC is normally in the same boat. OLM usually gets me before the year is up. But it's close. Just did it recently. OLM said 10% at 11 months. About 1,500 miles during that time. But only have 9K miles on it. Dexos 0W-20.

Yours is a direct injection motor unlike the fifth gen V8s. Direct injection V6s run FILTHY as carbon deposits end up in the oil so it's important to use oil SPECIFICALLY for DI and I for sure wouldn't let it go past 5k. Mines not a daily and only sees a couple hundred before a yearly change.

Pull the dipstick after at a couple thousand miles and see how black it is.
