opinions on trunion upgrade

bronze bushings or needle bearings. long haul cross country driver. the Harleys I've rode cross country to Sturgis jamming across south Dakota in hot august days with air cooled engine and bronze bushings no problems. the ls motor oil cooled, lower engine temps. will they have superior longevity as compared to the captive needle bearings? opinions of both sides would be appreciated. the oldman............

I’ve put about 14K miles on Straub solid trunions with no issues. After helping a friend fish stock needle bearing out of the oil pan, we replaced his stock rocker bearings to CHE solid trunions. I was impressed with the quality of CHE.

I have the smith brothers kit from GPI (buy the $15 install kit and you will need a small press)

CHE Bronze without a doubt. Only need a 6" C-clamp to disassemble stockers. CHE assemble by hand with snap ring pliers. No press necessary.

Cheers,

Interesting read. See section Bushings vs Needle Bearings. Almost makes a case for high pressure pump too when using Bushings “in most applications, where the loads and speeds are extremely high, the Jesel stance is the needle-bearing roller is a must. Unlike a rod or main bearing, there is not enough oil pressure available to a lifter roller to sustain an oil film needed between an axle and bushing to keep it from galling or wearing.”

I personally have ZPP Trunion Upgrade in my car. They have 24k on them no issues for now. ARP rocker arm bolts as well. This is a needle bearing upgrade. Much better configuration than oem, but when I build my motor, I will more than likely go to a solid bushing upgrade.

The way the CHE Bronze bushing is designed it retains oil.

I used Straub kit also, no complaints, easy to swap in, i spent the extra 30 and bought the tool to press them in/out pn (228-1213469) which made it go faster
