Intermittent Problem, does not start with the key but starts with the remote.

hey guys i searched through many posts here and the closest i could find was about keys getting stuck in car ignition.

My name is Netto, and I'm from Brazil. I have a 2011 Camaro V8 LS3 Automatic with 60 miles on it.
I've owned this car for 1.5 years, I've never had any problems with it, all repairs have been done at the dealership, I use the battery recommended by the manufacturer, it's new and in perfect working order.

sporadic Camaro has had a problem, once every 2 months, I insert the key and turn it, everything works, the fuel pump turns on, the windows work, the headlight comes on, all the dashboard lights come on, but when I turn it the key a little more for the car to start, everything goes out, you can hear a click under the dashboard (I'm not sure if the click comes from under the dashboard or under the hood), and nothing else happens.
I can try several times, and this is repeated, I put the shift lever in all positions and it still doesn't turn on.
But now comes the curious part!
If I start the car using the remote control it starts normally.
In Brazil, it is a very expensive car, and it is very difficult to find a mechanic or electrician who is an expert on these cars. At dealerships any overhaul or maintenance they charge tens of thousands of dollars. It's all very expensive.
If anyone here on this forum has been through this and knows how to fix it, and can help me I would be very grateful.
Forgive me for my poor English.
A mechanic friend told me that it could probably be the ignition switch failing.

Spray some WD40 into the ignition switch to see.if that work. Camaros are easy to work on. The small block chevy has been used in millions of trucks and cars for decades. Much of the changes has been to electronics.

Ok, I can even try that, but I can't understand what is the relationship between lubricating the key and it not starting, the ignition core and the key are in good condition. What makes me impatient is that the problem is intermittent and I never know when it will happen again.
The last time it happened was about two months ago. I'll lube the key and wait.
If anyone else has an idea of what it could be I would appreciate it.
thanks.

I haven't had this problem so my information might be incorrect but IIRC there is a locking solenoid that goes bad where you put the key in and people pull off the steering column cover and unplug the solenoid and continue to drive it like that as a cheap easy way around the problem.

sounds like your ignition starter relay, your remote start relay is wired in parallel to this one or after from what I recall. I'll look at the schematic later.
ps how did u get the ls3 in an automatic, was the engine swapped?

check relay kr74 under the hood, the ignition runs off the engine control module. you could have a stuck contact in your ignition switch like jlgo said.

hello my friend, thanks for helping me.
This procedure you gave me is exactly what is done when the key gets stuck in the Camaro's ignition.
My key doesn't get stuck, what happens is:
I try to start the car everything goes off and all I can hear is a click. The engine doesn't even turn.
But still I thank you for the helping hand

wow my friend, first i need to apologize to you and the rest of the forum members, when i wrote my camaro specs i confused LS3 with L99...
forgive me for the confusion.
What you said makes perfect sense, if the two systems are connected in parallel, it may really be a mechanical problem that does not appear on the scanner.
I will research this.

Thanks a Lot!!

IDK I don't feel like putting too much thought into it right now, am busy, but thinking a keystarter switch bad.

Are you getting any codes out of your scanner, if so please post them. If the dash lights are going out I am suspecting that you could have a module on the can bus network acting up.

Hi, thanks for commenting.

I've already scanned 3 times in the 4 month period and none of the times has any code appeared.

because the remote doesn't use the key ignition switch, I have never looked in the steering column but it sounds like a contact on or in the ignition switch(what u put your key in) is not making. open up ur steering console and take a look. u might get lucky and find a loose wire.

With no codes it does sound like an ignition switch contact issue or something in the console as already stated. I am sure someone here has had this problem & will let you know the solution.
