Long live the 5th Gen Camaro

Saw this today, the drivers of the ultra bad ass garage 56 Hendrick motorsports Camaro ZL1 7th Gen Nascar cup car at Le Mans took to the drivers parade in none other than a 5th gen SS vert. I love seeing that these cars are very much still relevant. Ohh and in case anyone is wondering, the car is really kicking ass. It’s currently comfortably at the top of the GTE class. The sound of that American V8 against the rest of the field is amazing. It’s gotten a ton of attention from the global racing community this week because of its speed. The Americans showed up to kick some ass like we always do!

Yeah I seen some amazing footage of it today and it was awesome. Hearing the roar of the engine and watching it catch up to the Ferraris was damn cool. Does anyone know much about the engine? My son said it is a 5.9 liter old style engine block, putting out like 750 hp, is this correct?

The exhibition class Hendrick Garage 56 Nascar Camaro is in the garage with tranny trouble.

The GM Corvette team is leading its class with less than 2 hours to go.

The Cadillac Hyper Car Prototypes are running 3rd and 4th behind the ultra fast Ferrari and the multi championship winning Toyota in 2nd

It’s a 358 inch R07 fuel injected nascar spec engine, without the nascar mandated horsepower reducing tapered spacer. Horsepower should have easily been in the 750-800 HP. The Camaro did have some trans axle problems but did finish the race. Congrats to Hendrick, Nascar, IMSA, Goodyear and Chevy! That’s a big accomplishment. I wondered how the trans axle would hold up, this is by far the biggest test it’s faced.

I'm missing something here. There's a 7th Gen ZL1? With a transaxle? Like the new Corvette, mid-engine set up?

No sir, there is a 7th gen Nascar cup car that is based visually off of the 6th Gen ZLE. The cup car has a front engine 6 speed sequential transaxle IRS setup.

Corvette won its class lapping the field and finished 27th overall out of 62 cars

The Hyper Car Caddies came home 3rd and 4th

The Garage 56 Hendrick Camaro exhibition car finished 39th overall and if they were in GTE AM they would have finished 11th in class 5 laps down from the Vette

Oh this is good.

But on the garage 56 topic, this car did exactly what was intended, it got folks exposed to Nascar. It was the talk of the field. Also congrats to Corvette racing, huge win.
