RS ?

So, my dad and I were talking the other day about camaros with the RS packages. He agreed that it made the car look many time better but brought up one issue that concerns me; water getting under the rear fin and causing rust. How many others are concerned with this issue and am I right to be worried?

Since you live in Florida your car will probably have an enhanced chance of rust anyway, and I don't see rust under the spoiler being any more of an issue than it would be on the rear quarters.

I doubt it, the seam is pretty tight between the spoiler and trunk lid from what I have observed. Plus I thinkrust happens usually because of water just sitting there in place for a long time. I doubt that will happen in this case, the spoiler is too small and if you are driving the car around, the water's not just gonna sit there. Just my .02

I have a 12 year old Monte without a spot of rust on it ..... Kept outside without a garage .....

Not to worry, just do your job to keep the car clean and there shouldn't be any problems .....

Which is why I said enhanced, meaningbetter than average due to high humidity, and even moreso if you live near the water.... I'm not sayin it's a foregone conclusion that it will rust b/c you live in Florida, I'm saying that there isn't any more of a chance for rust under the spoiler than anywhere else....

The word "enhanced" means to make greater .... There for the chances of rust would be greater than average .... And that is not a true statement ..... Just saying ..... Cars from Florida, Arizona, and California are preferred for used due to the lack of rust ..... The majority of the cars on the roads in Florida are rust free, unless they come from out of state ....

Under the spoiler (to me) is not the problem. The problem (again, to me) will be under the roof ditch molding. You can get something small, porous, and that wont harm the paint under the spoiler to dry it.

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. AZ, & CA sure. Dry climate. Florida on the other hand, while nicknamed the sunshine state, actually has more t-storms and is more rainy and very humid.... I personally would not buy a FL car. You may be correct, I might be misinformed, but I equate high humidity w/ water. Water + steel = rust.

Rust = OXIDATION ..... Has nothing to do with water directly .....It's cause by Oxygen and is enhanced by other elements .... Really the vast majority of cars in Florida are cherry as far as the rust goes ....

True, but water accelerates the rusting process. The other minerals in water can create acids and/or leave oxygen free to react with the iron to form rust.

is the op talking about the spoiler or sharkfin? lol im guessing he meant spolier because of the RS package.
Anyways i doubt youll find any rust under there anyways, all the water will flow out.
I open the trunk and wait for all the water to drip from under the spolier and that seems to do the trick
PS i heard that if you live near an ocean, the saltspray from the ocean can really fudge up your car, is this true?

Just move to CA and buy your Camaro. It will take longer to rust here.

Probably. Certainly can't help it.

Yes salt water is like a rust magnet. If you have a car by the beach or a salt lake... good luck!
