Playing with paint

Painted this SS emblem I ordered. Sanded the pearl emblem inlay with 600 grit paper then layed down 2 layers, 10m apart, of Duplicolor adhesion promoter to the whole thing. Laid down 2 coats, 10min apart, of Duplicolor Torch Red. Let dry over night then sanded the whole thing with 800 grit paper and laid down another 2 layers of Red. Let dry for a day. Masked off red parts then cut away the edges where the chrome would be with a razor blade. Sanded exposed edges with 600 grit paper then laid down 2 coats, 10 min apart, of Duplicolor flat black. Let dry all day then srayed another coat. Let dry for a few hours then put 3 medium coats of clear, 15min apart. Letting dry now.

Anyone have any tips on how to perfectly (as far as a human can get) paint these things? I want it to be perfect before I instal it.

The black edges are not exactly even in some parts but it looks pretty good overall. I don't think I let the red part dry long enough because after applying flat black and peeling away the masking tape, the tape left a texture to the once smooth red finish. Also the black out line didn't come out perfectly straight in some parts. I tried to cut away the masking tape as straight as I can. I'll post up final pics when the emblem is totally dry tomorrow.

They look good from what I see in the pics. I did custom painting for 20 some years and I was my own worst critic! What I would see flawed no one else saw, they just loved what I did for them. Now for the first time I am using someone else to do the custom paint on my camaro and I can find flaws but thats me going back to how I dissected my own work that and nobody else saw it unless I pointed it out. When I enjoy what has been done me and look at it like everyone looks at it I see awesome results. My point is don't be to hard on your work unless it is so obvious you cannot stand it when viewing from 5' away. just my 2cents.

Cool thanks!
Will lightly sanding the clear coat after it dries then reapplying a few more coats help any? Or will the 3 coats I put on be good enough?

Looks good. I had to "Save Image" and zoom in to see what you were describing, then and only then could I see what you meant. Unless someone puts their nose right up to it they would never know.

It is your project,it looks great but to many coats on a small part can burn you. If you like it, stop and put it on the car stand back and enjoy. Mickss said it good and, go on to the next project, sit back and enjoy!!!
