Got rear ended last night...

Sorry about the crappy cell phone pics:

101 Freeway (Ventura Freeway) eastbound at Ventu Park (1000 Oaks) for those of you in So Cal... lots of stop and go on the 101 at 'rush hour'.

I was "stop"... the van behind me was "go".

Thank god I was driving the truck - a unibody car would have been toast.

There is hardly any damage to the truck at all (bumper, right rear quarter)... but the van is totaled.

Something to be said for a full frame vehicle with a tow hitch - the hitch took most of the hit and sent the energy to the frame instead of folding the back end of my truck. Quite a big jolt on the inside - but hardly any damage to the outside.

The van front end was folded like an accordian and he caused a chain reaction and got rear ended himself. He's in the hospital for observation and treatment, but the CHP says not too serious.

Must have looked like armaggedon to passer-bys though - 3 ladder trucks, 1 rescue truck, 1 ambulance, 2 Highway Patrol and 2 County Sheriffs.

The cutest Firefighter/Paramedic (yes, female) wanted to know if I wanted to be evaluated medically due to the impact... since my wife reads through the forum, I want to say the ONLY thought that went through my mind was how nice it was that the fairer sex is breaking down 'traditional' occupational roles and finding acceptance ... nothing about turnout coats... boots... uhhhh nevermind

No pics of the EMT?

Glad to hear the truck took the bump like a champ. Hope their insurance gets that bumper and any body work fixed up good as new. Good thing you weren't in the Camaro, huh?

They'll be sending a second ambulance to the scene if my wife thought that happened
