The leather is cracking/peeling on steering wheel #2

When steering wheel #2 was put on I noticed it had the same pattern in the leather that the original one had, and told the service adviser that this one would be peeling in a matter of months.

She said wait till it starts to show then bring it back.

Well, brought it back this morning...
They looked at it, took some pictures of their own and said they would get back with me after they have a regional warranty manager look at the pics, or some other story on that line, don't remember their exact wording.

I don't wear any rings or even a wrist watch, my nails are kept short, the steering wheel does not rub on the tops of my legs, and this time I did not use Zaino leather in a bottle when I put it on the other leather surfaces to make sure that did not contribute to it with the first steering wheel.

Anyone else notice anything like this on their steering wheels yet?

What about any hand creams. That will destroy the leather but I don't think it will make it look like what your wheel looks like.

Nope, don't use any hand lotions, and I don't drive the Camaro to the beach so sun tan lotion is not the culprit either.

*Edit*

The leather on the shift knob is fine by the way.
So I don't think it's anything from my hands causing the issue.

Do your palms have any rough spots on them? Like callus'? Like they've been used alot in the same repetitive motion?

Seriously though, that steering wheel almost looks like it's rubbing against something like a zipper or a belt buckle.

I wear a pocket knife that clips on my pocket and a couple times while getting out, the clip brushed against the sterring wheel leaving a "rash" just like that.

Wow, first with the lotion, then with the repetitive motion comments.
And before anyone asks, my palms are not hairy either.

But back to the leather....

You can see the same pattern in the leather in this spot, this is the upper left hand part of the steering wheel about where I put my hand most of the time.

That pattern is all the way around the wheel in, some are worse than others, and has been there since day one.

And I sit far enough back from the wheel where even if I had a belt buckle it would not touch the wheel, hell it would have to make it past my spare tire first and even that does not touch the steering wheel on the way in and out of my Camaro.

I actually called the dealer for you, they said they are going to replace your steering wheel with a better one. They were nice enough to email me a pic to show you!

Put some controls for the radio on that bad boy, and I'll be good to go.

No way, I thought that I was the only one with this problem, mine is not as bad yet, but its been getting worse. I havent taken it to the dealership because I figured I would get the same sort of responses as those put here on this thread!!

Just to make it clear.
What has happened to my steering wheel has happened under normal use and normal driving conditions.

And to portions of the steering wheel that rarely make contact with my hands.
My hands are clean, free from rough patches, hairy palms, lacking in gigantic acrylic nails, and I refrain from using my kung fu grip while driving.

The steering wheel does not make contact with any belt buckles, pant legs, weapons (mass destruction or otherwise) or fat while driving or entering/exiting the vehicle.

The part of the wheel that I come in contact with 90% of the time is shown in the second picture.
Still has that pattern on it, but it's not peeling like the other side.

When steering wheel #2 was installed, I showed the service adviser the funky pattern in the leather that had caused the issue in steering wheel #1.
She and her service manager compared steering wheel #2 to several other 2SS's on the lot and found that none of them had the pattern.

However, none of those other 2SS's had the IOM interior...

Mike SS, do you have the IOM interior?
Can your post up some pics of your steering wheel as well?
