Mobil 1

I went down to my local Advanced Auto Parts store and picked up 6-qts of Mobil One 5w-30 and a Mobil One cartridge # M1C-254 Filter all for $33.62 out the door !

The Manager at the store told me that he will always honor this price as long as he is at this store location and he will also honor all military discounts that Advance Auto Parts offer even with Advertised Oil Change Specials ( not all stores will do that and offer a discount and combined them with other special discount offers)... !

Fee5,

On your first oil change did you switch to Mobile 1 or did you wait until after the break in period to switch over? I have read conflicting points.

I used Dino Oil & a AC Delco Filter @ 500,1000,1500 & at 2000 miles then I changed over to Mobil One and a AC Delco Filter ( the M1 Filters were not out at that time) at 3000 mi. and then from there on I will change my oil with a M1 Cartridge Filter every 4500-5000 mi. ( I might even use the OLM at times)..
I also get free Oil & Filter changes at my and any GM Dealership , but I believe thats only for Dino Oil . The next time I change my Oil & Filter I'm going to find out if it also covers Synthetic Oil too ( then I will only supply the M1 Filter). At least I don't have to pay for the labor and all those extra fees they add for the oil dumping...

Engines have been coming from the GM factories for years with synthetic oil in them. With tighter machining tolerances in modern engines, break-in is not as important as it used to be.
Also, I suspect that Mobil 1 quality has declined over the years, and there are numerous synthetic oils on the market that meet or exceed Mobil 1 performance, especially in wear reduction.
I know of a case where the person did oil analyses, and with Mobil 1 the lead levels steadily increased. He switched to Castrol EDGE, and the lead wear levels dropped to 1/3rd on the next analysis. I switched from Mobil 1 to Valvoline Synpower since their wear test have also shown 8x better wear protection than Mobil 1. I will know if my engine wear will show similar results the next time I change my oil.

We both use WIX oil filters. Good quality at a reasonable price.
