Amp Help please

Alright, so currently I have a 2 door speakers that were aftermarket, but installed before I got the car. I also have another speaker in my trunk. I really want to get 2 Kicker 10" 300 Watt 4 ohm subs and two 4 X 6 speakers in the backseat.. I have no Idea what else I need to get to make this setup work well as in Amp or head unit or anything.

I would leave the small speakers alone unless you get a bigger cleaner main amp. Most higher quality speakers require more clean power, the OEM system is designed to work together. A small amp with efficient speakers. 4x6" speakers do nothing for mid-bass, they are more like small midranges with a tweeter. A good quality 6x9 will put out good upper bass. I don't know what size speakers are in my OEM Boston system because I am not touching any of them. I am just adding a sub, amp, cap, and building a small sealed enclosure for 2 12" Diamond subs that I am running at 2 ohms at 1200 watts RMS.

The opening in the rear seats is only a 6" circle.. Is there a way to make it bigger? it feels like it's the steel frame almost.

The 94 Camaro doesn't have a back deck, does it? I thought the rear speakers were on the side. If so thats weird having 6" round holes, my older Firebird had 6x9's on the side. Usually a good 6-6.5" inch 2 way speaker is better then a 4x6, 4x6" speakers basically suck IMO. I have bought expensive 4x6" 2-ways before and was not happy. They only put out midrange and treble. You are better off with 6.5' quality efficient speakers. If you do have a back deck, I personally would cut the metal and install good quality efficient 6x9's. Efficiency is VERY inportant. A 6x9" speaker thats 87db at one watt needs DOUBLE the watts as a speaker thats 90db at one watt. So the 90db speaker with 50 watts will be as loud as an 87db speaker with 100watts. Every time you double the wattage to a speaker you gain 3db's.

Example: a speaker thats 87db at 1 watt will be 105db with 64 watts.
a speaker thats 93db at 1 watt will be 105db with 16 watts.

A CLEAN amp and EFFICIENT speakers is very important.

Does this 94 Camaro have an aftermarket indash? If so it should have phono outputs, that way you can get a 4 channel amp for your front and rear small speakers, and a mono sub amp for the 2 Kicker 10's, or you can bridge a 2 channel amp for the subs. You can also get a 5 channel amp that would be easier, 4 channels for small speakers and 1 channel for the subs. Very easy if you have an aftermarket indash WITH phono outputs.

Yes, I do have an aftermarket indash with phono outputs. theres a sale in town, so I'm going to go look for amps. they're advertising 1000 watt 4 channel amps for 60 bucks. I'll have to check it out.

Bulldog, I am thinking initially a 1000watt x 4 for $60 is NOT gonna be a good deal. In my car audio journey doing research and being new like I am that strikes me as junk. Check it out but be wary.

Cheers

You get what you pay for.

Like many years ago, my friends were buying 5-way, 6-way, and even 7-way 6x9" speakers, what a joke.

If an amp weighs 5 pounds it can't put out 1000 watts.

Many cheap sub boxes are said to handle 600,700, 1000 watts, Right, NOT.

Do some reasearch and go to a few sound-offs and see what people are using.

I am a member of several Hi-Fidelity web-sites and Home Audio web-sites, there

is so much you can learn. I have only boughten a few items from Bestbuy or stores

like them when it comes to Audio/Video.

If that amp was REALLY 1,000 watts x4 it would weigh 100 pounds and probably cost $1,000.

I deffinitely believe that. I looked at them, they were all brands I'd never heard of and had no details. Too good to be true!

Crutchfield is a great place to start if you don't have much experiance. They are finally selling great products, plus the techs will help you make good decisions, or at least they can get you going into the right direction, as you can probably find lower prices. But they are GREAT with returning items. Last year I installed very high end component speakers in the front of my Acura TL using the factory 5.1 system, as I was fearing, the stock OEM amp didn't have enough juice to power them, even though they were very efficient for component 2-ways. I returned them with full refund and it was done quickly.

Bulldog-
Carefull with the brands you have never heard of though. I have run across a couple of brands I have never heard of and I would almost bet money they would put to shame the name brands that are touted out there. And then some unheard of brands just straight suck.

As mentioned to crutchfield is a good place for research. You can get a line on what might work in your car and its a good place to start for research. However I have found that thier prices are high. With a bit of research I think you can do better for the same price.

Either way I think the take away is check things out, get a feel for it, then research and make an informed decision for you and your budget.

Cheers
