dealer haggling...

OK so after a long hold on a new car thanks to putting a ton of money in to a mancave addition on my house. Im ready to start getting serious again. Im not a brand loyal person. I like American cars period. IM down to either a camaro SS or mustang. I have driven the mustang, but only sat in the camaro at the dealer. A test drive has been arranged for this week though. I dont like the new 11 mustang I dont like the fact that a year was chopped off of 5.0 research.(the real world testing part) If I went ford I would get a 10 since the 4.6 GT is cheap as chips, like 25k for a fully loaded gt, super charge it and be ahead of the game in power, and money of either a new mustang or camaro ss.

But I do want to give the camaro its fair chance. as I love the exterior styling. Interior I can live with.

What I noticed about both.

Camaro felt like a cave and hard to see out of. but VERY solid interior, but very bland, Its nice, but nothing special. THe 6.2 liter is also quite nice. Exterior styling I love on both, thats a wash. But the mustang wins on interior design for me. Also the mustang has a much nicer engine noise and exhaust rumble. Im also very much affected by little stuff. I like the bong of the mustang more than the camaro (like seat belt alarm etc) and I like how the mustang starts up, it just sounds better. The camaro SS starting up has the same exact sound as my moms 3.6 liter acadia.

so im asking two questions here.

1, can I get some good solid non fanboy argument as to camaro vs mustang. Some good solid facts?

2. Is there any room for negotiations at all on a camaro 2ss? I refuse to pay sticker for one. Also is there any financing deal going on? I would like to get a 36 month loan. But not at 5%, I would just as much pay cash at that high of apr.

thanks a bunch guys.

PLENTY of room....like $1200 off sticker, or $1000 more if you have a saturn or pontiac at your house!

Ok, so you'll put a 7k supercharger on, but can't change the exhaust 3hun to get a different sound ?

ok whatever,

get the mustang.

The exhaust is a wash, IM talking actual engine start up noise. You cant really change that. The camaro SS has a minivan, while the mustang sounds like one of the big f-150s starting up, real distinctive and manly sounding. Little things I know, but something I think about. Also the roush charger is only about 4000. And maintains the warranty.

Yes I have USAA, but the program only nets about 750 off sticker. Does gm have the deal when you trade a chevy you get a discount?

I traded in my Cobalt SS/SC and didn't get any discounts. The USAA brought the price of my camaro down to about $50 over invoice, then we also had the $1000 dollar rebate because we own a pontiac. It may not be a problem getting the dealer to sell at invoice, but it depends on how large the dealer is and how many camaros they push per month.

I test drove a Mustang GT Premium and a Camaro 2SS. IMHO, the Camaro just drove a LOT better - it cornered better and had a lot more power. After the test drive, there was no question that I had to have the Camaro.

Take that test drive. You'll be glad you did.

As far as the visibility in the Camaro, I remember the first time I sat in it also thinking the visibility was bad. It took me about 5 minutes to get used to it. I don't even think about it anymore. You get the feel of it.

Good luck with your decision.

I wasn't a fan of the Camaro until I drove one honestly. I don't see how you could find the mustang interior more appealing. Every Ford I've ever been in has the WORST interior styling of any car besides a Kia. I don't think that the new 5.0 will be as great as everyone thinks, but they'll be pretty comparable I'm sure, but nothing spectacular. I highly doubt that you'll get even close to having the same luxury features in a mustang for the price of the Camaro, not to mention that the Mustang is one of the most common cars on the road and everyone who has one thinks that theirs is the fastest one in the world.

There's no room at all. I read so many articles about how every price is firm, went to my dealer and almost walked out a couple times because they just wouldn't budge. USAA discount is the only one ($750 off or something).

1. fact, camaro is a much better car and better resale value.
2. fact, the 2010 mustang has deals because no one wants them.their all waiting on the 2011.

1. It's your car, only you can decide what YOU want.

2. If in doubt, see rule #1.

the interior is an opinion Ford has had better fit and finish and more appealing interiors than gm since 2001. The mustangs is amazing, the camaros while very solid feeling, just is a little bland. The camaro also lacks some things i would like. Like a GPS screen, rear view camera, power passenger seat, just to name a few things. The sync system is also very neat. I wish gm would get some of these things then this wouldn't be so hard.

I understand your feelings on how the interior on the 2010 Mustang is really nice, I admit it is, throw a roush charger and off-road Roush Exhaust and you have a combo that’s very hard to beat. Truth is you will get a better deal on the Stang thanks to everyone waiting for the 5.0, and the 4.6 aftermarket is huge so there is nothing wrong with scoring a good deal on one. In the end it’s your money and you must go with what you feel is the better investment. But the Camaro will have a better resale value, and to be honest while the Mustang looks good, the Camaro trumps it easily on exterior styling. Honestly even the new Mustang will not turn heads unless it’s a Roush or GT500, I test drove a regular GT and it seemed like just another car. While I liked it, the Camaro is just simply a head turner; I love the feeling in the car it was the shoe that fit so that’s why I ordered one. I was practically set on a 2010 track pack Mustang but the Camaro styling won me over, plus I really enjoyed driving it. You could improve obviously the exhaust note, startup I don’t know maybe a tune?? Navigation I really didn’t care about that, but it’s your call I would wait to see what the 2011 model offers on the Camaro. Try both, weigh both against each other and then make your choice good luck, a roush charged mustang would be awesome too maybe you could find a 427R with a steep discount.

the attention is the biggest thing with the camaro, round here mustangs are a dime a dozen, its an event to see a camaro SS. but Mustangs just hold a special place in my heart since it was the first car I ever drove (95 gt vert), still had that car up until 08 when some asshat who couldnt drive ran in to me and totaled it. If it were not for that I would not be looking for my pony/modern muscle car fix. Which is really the only reason im considering a mustang.

Yes, but unfortunately for many who've posted here, that attention isn't always good. I like the Camaro....but I don't want to be paranoid that my car's going to be trashed every time I step away from it. Since the Mustangs are so prevalent, the likelihood of someone's Mustang being 'messed with' is far lower than that of a Camaro (based on what I'm seeing on this site anyway).
