Let's talk Mods and MPG's for the LT

Is anyone noticing any MPG loss when adding Mods?
I'm thinking of adding CAI,Catback, and Full length headers/Highflow Cat, will this cost me any MPG's

Anything that frees up the air flow should improve MPGs, but those gains will probably be cancelled out by your right foot.

Amen. The new K&N intake in mine makes it sound so dang nice in the mid prm range, I can't lay off of it. Lower mpg here I come!

When you increase airflow, you increase fuel required to maintain the proper AFR (Air/Fuel Ratio) more gas means less gas mileage. Now, if you improve efficiency in the engine you may increase power AND mileage but these kinds of mods are few and far between on the aftermarket despite some claims to the contrary!

I didn't buy a Camaro for the mileage.
New CAI + new exhaust = full throttle launches = smile on my face = crappy mpg's.
Enjoy it while you can!

Just put a new Cat Back on today and just have to run it through the gears. The harder I run it the better it sounds so I am sure i've lost some MPG for the next few weeks. LOL!

It's not quite as simple as "more airflow." It's either more air for a given amount of pressure loss, or less pressure loss for a given amount of air. You can ease off the throttle to keep the same airflow you used to have, but your air will now lose less pressure while it's flowing through the tubes and your engine will be wasting less power moving air around.

(Power produced by the engine) = (power sent to the transmission) + (power to pull air through the intake) + (power to push air out the exhaust)

Actually that's not true, otherwise you would have got the SS, We all seen that 29mpgs and thought it was great, if speed was our only deciding factor we all would have gotten the SS

Actually, I chose the V6 more because they wanted an additional $10.000 for the SS, and other factors including higher maintenance and insurance costs, as well as the higher octane fuel and mpg's. I was just stating that I like to drive fast regardless of what I'm driving.

MPG had nothing to do with my SS vs V6 choice, my bank account was what made the deciding factor. I could care less about 29mpg. I enjoy driving it like I stole it, and that's not good for the mpg!

I think a lot of V6 owners did like the mpg, and bought the V6 because of that, but I also think there's an equal contingent that bought the V6 because the SS was out of their price range.

But it just seems to me, that same crowd is going to put way more money into their car for speed then it would have been to get the SS

Most of the people who plan to put 5-10k or more into modding their car got SS's, sure, but not all of them. Head over to the Forced Induction forum and see how many people are interested in the Lingenfelter supercharger or STS turbocharger kits.
