Looking at ordering 2011, question on timeframe

Hey everyone,

I've been looking at getting a new car for awhile now, and the 2010/2011 camaro will most likely be my final choice. Been trolling the forums for awhile now trying to get as much info as possible.

My question is, I've already missed the mark to order a 2010, so I've started looking at the 2011's. Does anyone have any idea how long it would take to actually get one if it's ordered? I saw production shifts over June 7th, and most people quote 6 - 8/10 weeks for a factory order

So would I be looking at 6 - 10 weeks post June 7th, or is some of that time burned just with getting the order in?

It depends upon your dealer. If they have an allocation for the first week of production, the car could theoretically be on the dealer's lot in 4 weeks. But I'm assuming the time varies based upon your distance from the plant in Canada. The first 2011s will probably be showing up 3 weeks after production started. But those will be to the dealers that are nearest to the factory from what I've heard.

If you get your order in early you can probably expect that. My suspiscion now though is that the pre-orders will begin to pile up and the first few months will be pretty backlogged. I don't know if it will be quite as bad a the start to production of the 2010's (mostly got the bugs worked out now) but the earlier you get an order in the better I would imagine.

I ordered my 2010 in feb, so the production had been in full swing for a year already and I was driving mine in 7 weeks.

there are a lot of new cars on the dealer lots right now.unless you absolutely want to order one,i am sure you can find one around.there are several dealers right here on the forum that could probably help you out.i saw one dealer this morning,on a post he made,that he had 20 cars in stock including a indy car.

I've been going back and fourth. This will be the first new car I've ever owned. I was looking at a 2LT, inferno orange, silver stripes, RS package, sunroof. Haven't seen that specific one anywhere yet.

If I found it I would consider it, but at the same time I've waited this long, wouldn't be the worst to wait another few months and get the new model year along with the HUD (not a deal breaker, but a cool extra to have).

Sounds like if I ordered a 2011 now I'd probably have it maybe mid July / August...

You should count on around 8 weeks.
Most of that is staging time, since it should only take a week to actually build the car.

The dealer should be able to give you the changes in status of your order, and the "build date" once it is assigned.

I'm thinking of ordering a 2011 Camaro SS but in March when i have a good about save. does any body know if theirs any changes to the car or is just the new HUD that they added to it.

I think with the SS the only change is the HUD. V6 has a higher HP rating of 312 vs 306, but it's the same engine. Generally not major changes.

So since a lot of the time is staging, is it safe to assume I would burn a lot of that time off before the manufacturing change over June 7th? If so, I figure I'd still be looking at maybe late July....
