I would like to see all your comments on what you think the best replacement shifter is for the S/S V8 M6 Tremec is and why you think it is the best.
Maybe where you bought it and how much. Vendors welcome to answer too. Dave

I have the Barton STS. The feel of the shift is smooth and still mechanical, not ratchety and clicky. The weight of the ball is good, no scale to weigh it on, but it feels fairly heavy for its size. The looks. All stick options have adjustable heights, and can be changed out in a matter of minutes from start to finish. The stick options are:
3 options for the stick. Factory Knob Polished with Ball knob Flat Stick with Ball Knob. Costs: Starting around 200.00 up to something like 250.00/275.00 Quality: Excellent quality, fit, finish, and design. Clean edges, smooth, no rough spots or blemishes. Overall, great stick, performs excellent, looks great, works like it should.

I wont say my shifter is better than X brand for this reason or that reason because to be honest I havent tried all the shifters on the market.
But what I will say is... I have sold hundreds of the Barton short throw shifter to members on this site and it has been a huge success. We have tried to offer a shifter that most everyone can afford and an option for everyone. We offer 3 different sticks to fit your style and we offer a bunch of different engravings on the ball and pistol grip. When I first started making these shifters I had 2 options and when the Camaro5 members on this site told me they only wanted this or that, I listened..... I dont charge you for stuff you dont want.. Pick what options YOU want and dont pay for what you wont use. That being said there are a lot of great Vendors on this site and a lot of good choices. As a fellow Camaro owner, Competion makes the aftermarket world all the better If you would like more info on our shifter it can be found here... http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73418 |

Any chance you can offer shifter knobs like these for both v6 and V8 patterns? These would be super popular with the members imo

Hurst has been engineering shifters for high performance and race applications for 50+ years and are even installed in vehicles right on factory assembly lines in some cases. To me, that means a lot. There are one or two other shifters that I like, but they are active on here and I will let them speak up if they choose to.

The best one is the one you like best. You should find people near you that have various shifters installed and get them to let you try them. That can be difficult to do, but it is the only way to truly know what you like best.

Deffinantly agree with Sam, find people with other shifters and see if they will let you try them out. i have an MGW shifter with the race knob and love it. It's the only shifter I have tried and can only compair it to the stock one. I'm no engineer but when I was looking for a shifter, I just could not understand how just a shaft replacment could get me what I was looking for. A shorter throw, with a more positive and tight feel. That is why I went the MGW route. More money, but in my opinion, it has been worth it. It was very stiff and notchy for the first 500 miles or so, but has since smothed out and has been all I was hoping for. george even offered to open the shop up on a day off to do the install for free. I declined because I like to do my own work, but that's what I call service.

Another vote for Barton. Great feel, even better price. Throws are nice and short without being TOO short. Also looks great- almost has a stock looking feel. Eliminates that 3rd gear unpleasantness that I think affects some V8 trannies. Would've paid double!!

I just installed MGW
Most complete replacement kit around and very nicely designed Very nice solid feel and positive action MGW has some strong springs in there to make shift into 3rd flawless Wee bit trick to carry out some of the install - but I managed it on axle stands in my garage and I am no mechanic - but you really do need to watch their install video Amazing how much of the original shifter parts which you replace with MGW vs others on the market. I have attached pics of MGW kit and what I pulled out of my car and is now in the "laugh and throw away" pile along with the standard sway bars They also have some really nice shift knob options now
