THE smoking of the Brake lights and Side marker lights.

So here are the options

1) Window tint
2) vinyl film
3) those plastic covers that go on with velcro
4) spray

1) I have been told that window tint will not work for too long because plastic always gives off chemicals and it ends up bubbling the tint. Is this true? The second issue is that the side markers have raised writting on them that would not allow for a sealed area. Does one file this down and sand to make smooth first?

2) Vinyl film see above.

3) Plastic covers are just not my thing so this is not an option for me.

4) Painting, I am intrested in this. Is this a special paint for this to let the light come through? Is it just a light coat of regular paint? Can one do this at home? Does anyone know a cost with this? I would take out my own lenses, of course.

Thank you for the help,
Bill Baranowski

window tint is designed to be used on the inside of glass, thats why it does not last long on the outside when exposed to direct sunlight. proper vinyl lens tint is designed for exactly this application. quality lens tint has a life of about 5-7 yrs

I tried to tint my tail lights with the vinyl tint from black10 and I gave up. The curvature of the outside lights made it impossible for me to get it on there without huge wrinkles. I'm sure someone with more patience and skill could make it work but I gave up. Doing the reverse lights like he has shown was cake though. I have the vinyl for the side markers too but haven't decided if I'm going to do them or not.

On my Tacoma that I used to have, I used the VHT nightshades spray with some clear coat to smoke my tail lights. It looked ok, but I rushed it and the paint ran in some spots. Not sure if I want to attempt it with my camaro tail lights or not. I may go with acrylic removables or wait and see if the sequential tail lights get done and if they have a smoked version.

Oh, I forgot to mention...if you go with the spray on then do one thin coat and let it dry and see how it looks. If you want it darker then repeat. Thin coats will help keep it from running and being uneven and you can fine tune how dark you want it. When you are happy with it then you can shoot a layer of clear on top.

We offer a taillight and side marker tinting service. We use a urethane black candy basecoat/clearcoat paint system. You can purchase pre-tinted taillights from us as a "ready to install" set or you can send us your existing factory lights for us to tint. We even have a core refund policy to offset some of the costs.
