I had my year long onstar expire may 15, and my credit card expired on april30th. i recieved emails and phone calls from them wanting my updated credit card, and at this time i didnt want to renew because...well i cant afford it right now. somehow they were able to charge my credit card without my authorization. wtf????

now im going to have to deal with calling them and arguing over the phone for god knows how long.

i like onstar but this is just stupid

If your card is expired I would think you have a great fight with OnStar AND your credit card company. I would start with the credit card people.......

Not real sure (correct me if I am wrong) but when you first activate OnStar or add services on a credit card they ask you if you want them to auto-renew.
I ALWAYS tell them NO. Reminds me of America Online and their tactics from
way back when.

I do not charge anything renewable to my cards. I pay for this stuff the old fashioned way, with a check for the very reason that you are experiencing. I also do not let anyone into my checking account for automatic payments. I am to old to trust these things.

OnStar will automatically renew if you don't cancel it. I got an email three months before warning me. You should have as well.

You can still write checks? I didn't know those things existed anymore.

I tried to put my 1SS on my American Express and the dealer said "No way".
They have to pay to much of a fee to do that. I then wrote him a check which he took. How do you pay your credit card biil? Do you put it onto another credit card? I would really like to be able to do that.

Yes companies with which you have an automatic renewable charge can still charge your card past the expiration date.

This is why I have one of those fillable Visa debit cards that you can buy at almost any retail store. The amount on the card is the amount you put on it. If they try to auto-renew or if some steals the card number when you have no money on it, then it's useless to them. Plus they are dirt cheap ($5-$10) and are easily canceled and renewed so after they are used you can either throw it away or cancel it until you want to use it again.

You're supposed to pay those? No wonder they keep sending them! But seriously I usually pay mine online directly from my account but not an automatic payment.

If you did not tell them to "auto-renew" then On Star is definitely in the wrong. The reason they allow them to charge it even after your card is expired is for those shady people out there who do purchase something, and then get a new card number or close the account all together. Granted this is not the same as your case, but companies have to be able to protect themselves from dead-beats.

Same here. They tried several tactics/requests to get my card numer. I finally flatly told them that I wasn't going to give it to them.
